Goalkeepers Brian Murphy (Manchester City), Wayne Henderson (Aston Villa) Defenders: Stephen Brennan (Newcastle United), Stephen Kelly (Tottenham), Mark Rossiter (Sunderland), Stephen Capper (Sunderland), Stephen Paisley (Manchester City), Paddy McCarthy (Manchester City), John Fitzgerald (Blackburn Rovers). Midfielders: Graham Ward (Wolves), Darren Potter (Liverpool), Michael Foley-Sheridan (Liverpool), Sean Thornton (Sunderland), Glenn Whelan (Manchester City), Willo Flood (Manchester City), Adrian Deane (Charlton Athletic), Liam Kearney (Nottingham Forest). Forwards: Jonathan Daly (Stockport County), Stephen Elliott (Manchester City), Eamon Zayed (Bray Wanderers). It's a good squad, I think. Sunderland are going to try and stop Thornton from going, but hopefully the FAI will insist he travel.
Sunderland have tried to stop him but the FAI are threatening to goto UEFA over it. Personally, I think Thornton would get more experience from the Sunderland first team and any good preformances there will do him far more good, I'd rather he stayed, even if it hampered Irelands chances overall, but in fairness it's still a good squad without him there.
The FAI will insist that Thornton travel. I don't think that there's anything Sunderland can do about it at this poing...
