Howdy! I've been struggling to post replies to threads in both "USA Men" and "USA Men: News & Analysis", but I have been able to post in Yanks Abroad since I first encountered the error. Rejected posts return a generic 500 error (I looked at the response body to see if there was an error message that isn't shown to the user, and 500 is as specific as I can get). I have tried re-logging in, posting from a different browser (I use FF, I tried Chrome), and posting from an incognito window, but none of these worked (nor should they, why would those actions affect the request that's causing a server-side error). I have had my pop-up blocker and FF's Enhanced Tracking Protection turned off on this site for some time. While I've been trying to debug this error, other users have posted replies to threads in both of those forums. Have I been banned from a certain subsection of forums and something on my end is preventing that message from showing up? Is there a piece of data that could've changed on the server-side that is being cached by client?
We do have thread bans which perhaps is possible - but that’s only N&A. Can you try to start a new thread in either and tag me?
And I'm able to reply to that one! Still unable to reply here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/usa-vs-t-t-gold-cup-qualifying-round-7-2.2126516
@dark knight seems like the problem was the quote tags... something about the quotes I created using the "Quote" button caused the errors. Let me see if the other thread I was trying to post to still has my quotes cached. Still, thanks for helping me diagnose this bug!
This is the other thread I was trying to respond to: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/gold-cup-replacements.2126509/ My response included this quote (apologies for the misleading tag for rgli13): I was also quoting someone else in the post-match thread. Deleting the quote still doesn't make my saved draft reply send-able (same 500 error), but it does make me think that server-side error is related to the "save draft replies" feature. Nothing of value was lost (lol its a soccer discussion board), but if other users encounter similar bugs, it might be worth chasing down.
OH SNAP IS IT A TWITTER LINK PROBLEM? edit: yes. I tried to embed a tweet in a reply to this thread, and I'm now unable to post here (getting 500 errors in response.
After attempting to post a Twitter link (500 error), I had to do a hard-refresh to be able to post anything except edits to my own posts. I would guess this is being caused by Twitter's recent change to how it handles requests from clients that aren't logged in... whatever wack-ass 4xx error Elon's twitter is returning to the BS server is causing an unhandled error.
Looks like Twitter quietly turned the ability to view tweets while not signed in back on, which enables embeds: 😏 @headdturnerr pic.twitter.com/lhrGQn1UuQ— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) July 5, 2023
Does it work with all media types? Happy Independence Day! Have a safe and happy holiday! 🎆🎇🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/MQSYlpymWw— U.S. Soccer (@ussoccer) July 4, 2023
