this is what i cant figure out, it has beautiful weather, is a HUGE SOCCER city where everyone from kids to over 40s play almost year round, yet no one has even MENTIONED NM as a contender for ANYTHING. we have had some semipro teams in the past that failed due to mismanagement etc but all we have sports wise is AA or AAA baseball SOCCER would rule this city. just a thought but hey what do i know

Sounds like the perfect spot for an A-League team.

Because a lot of youth and some adult players does not translate into MLS support. Can you imagine a city with a grander soccer playing saturation than San Jose? Face it, EVERY city has a huge playing base with everyone from kids to over 40s playing year round. That doesn't mean they can deliver a deep pockets owner, a free standing owned stadium and at least 10,000 people to come out every week, especially after they discover that its easier to cheer for their kids than pro players in a game that isn't football, basketball or baseball.

There was the Albuquerque Geckos in 1998. They finished dead last in their division and became the Sacramento Geckos, widely acknowledged to be the worst A-league team ever (one point in 28 matches).

During ticket sales for the 96 Olympics, someone called from New Mexico to order tickets. Operator told them they were only taking domestic ticket orders. They would have to contact their olympic committee for international ticket orders.
