Two heavyweights in the ACC met last night at Ludwig field and Maryland earned a hard fought 1-0 win over Wake Forest. Sumed Ibrehim scored on a 15 yard shot from the left side of the box on a diffiicult angle to beat Hesmer near post. Neither attack could do much as both defense's dominated the game. Maryland's best chances came on set pieces with Goodson getting his head on four of the Terp's 9 total shots. Wake had the ball most of the second half but couldn't make the final pass to get the quality chance they needed to get back level. I was surprised to see Wake's Jerry White play 50 minutes last, the last I heard he was out until sometime in November with fractured skull. He was largely ineffective but it was great to see him back on the field and doing well.
UMD will next be in action Sunday at UNC for another difficult ACC battle.

    fractured skull...

TF, thanks for the report. Your comment about White is interesting, as Dinnall from UVA had to sit out 2 games because his elbow collided with White's head as he was trying to get free from White yanking on his top (it was accidental). Like you, I hope that the injury was not too serious, but wonder why Dinnall had to go through the personal threats about being sued bythe family and WFU then being forced to take the 2 games off to avoid further actions.

    Re: fractured skull...

All of the ACC games are very intense and players do thing in the heat of the action that should stay on the field. The idea of suing someone for an injury that comes in the run of play goes back to parent's trying to control everything in life for their babies. I take one look at Dinnall and it's hard to believe he could hurt someone with a baseball bat much less an unintentional elbow. I didn't see the UVA/Wake game but stuff happens in a game. These players basically go to war for 90 minutes but will visit each other's campus' in the off season and hang out together because they are not parents, they can leave it on the field.

Disclaimer: The HS incident against the AU kid should have been criminally proscuted because he ran 50 yards to intentionally injury a kid, it wasn't an instant reflex reaction.

    Rapids scouting trip

Tim Hankinson gave an interview that was on the radio this evening (being discussed here), and in it he said he has been on a scouting trip back on the East Coast and was at this game. Who do you think he was interested in, or who did he come away from the game impressed with?

I put some comments under the Colorado Rapids Board "Hankinson Interview" if anyone is intersted.

I went and agree with Terpfan's view of this one. Very even game played at a very intense pace. Not too many chances either way. As mentioned, MD's chances mostly off set pieces and Wake's on the counter. Ibrahim's goal was very well struck with the left foot one time.

I was definitely impressed by the level Wake played at though. Any ideas why Curfman did not start and was subbed in the second half for Wake? His inclusion on the right midfield added a dangerous element to Wake's offense and they certainly were worse without him on the field.

I don't think Curfman has started a game yet.

#20 Steven Curfman didn't stand out for me but I don't really know Wake's personnel that well anyway. I see he is a Freshman and has played in all seven games this year and has 3 shots with one assist which isn't exactly dominating the action but is good for his first year.
