I saw a job listing there that I'm interested in. Weren't some World Cup matches played there? What do y'all know about the place?
It's a less than overwhelming industrial town noted for ship building. I don't think there's really a whole lot of interest there, although the new World Cup stadium was nice. I lived in Korea for a year a while back, and traveled around a bit as well as being back there for the World Cup this summer, and I wouldn't really care much to live anywhere outside of Seoul or Pusan, but that's just me. I have to also second the recommendation on the love motels. Silk(like) bathrobes in the room and everything at the Equis. Very classy.
Went there for the US-Germany match. We were only there for a couple of days, but it didn't really seem like there was a whole lot to do. There's a big park there....that's pretty much it from what I could see. But then, i was there to see soccer. We did stay in a love hotel that the tourist info desk set us up with (not mentioning that it was a love hotel, but we got the idea when we saw the dildo vending machines in the hallway). We took the room that didn't have the gynecology exam chair in the corner.
hmmmmmmmmm. of course, i've always thought the following about foreign industrial towns: If I were from Cambodia, it might be interesting to live in Detroit, just because its different.
Fair enough. Like I said, it wouldn't be my preference, but it's all down to personal taste in the end, and yours may differ from mine. I should add that I never made it to Ulsan when I lived in Korea, and only spent about 24 hours there last summer, so my impression of the city is largely based on what my Korean friends and students told me. Most of them were from Seoul and its environs, though, and had the same bias that folks from the capital or any large city seem to have regardless of country - that the rest of the country is an uncultured backwater. So take that for what it's worth.
