Trump's peace plan leaked in Dutch media. Putin gets to keep Crimea, and Russia also gets to keep either partial or total conquered territory. A 1,300 km demilitarized zone is set up between Ukraine and Russia (similar to Korea), which is to be guarded by French and German troops. And Ukraine becomes member of NATO https://www.telegraaf.nl/video/4383...elekt-grote-problemen-voor-poetin-en-zelenski
It would take a ridiculous number of troops to patrol a 1300 km demilitarized zone. Such a zone would make the area that the UN patrols in the Congo seem well guarded.
I was very much banging the drum to invade Georgia in 2008 and beat up the Russian to make a point to the Russians not to do this shit again.
Beats the heck out of me. But I would think those troops are more symbolic than strategic. Putin would have to be a fool to attack NATO troops. Putin is evil, but he's not a fool
Yes, if they can agree to some type of EU military and how to fund it. Just imagine how bad the US military would be if there was no federal military, each state runs it's own and just sends them to war, the way it was pre WW1.
According to the video Trump can tell Zelensky if he doesnt take the deal he will stop arming Ukraine, and Trump at the same time will tell Putin if he doesnt take the deal either he will start sending Ukraine more advanced missiles. So your next question probably is what if both sides turn down the deal, and I have no answer for that
It would be a tough sell. The problem for Ukraine is that it isn't really a viable country without the industrial areas that Russia conquered. The problem for Russia is that Putin absolutely won't accept a Western-oriented NATO member on its border. The whole reason for invading was to prevent that.
I think this NATO topic deserves an own thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/t...a-democratic-or-republican-president.2133281/ Maybe the mod can move the NATO future related posts in here to there.
The towns and villages Russia conquered have mostly been turned to rubble. I dont think there's too many buildings left standing. It would take a long time and a lot of money to rebuild all that So handing that wasteland to Putin to make peace is largely symbolic. Its essentially worthless real estate
i don’t know who needs to hear this but of course Trump does not have a peace plan. Pentagon might have some workable ideas but the problems are Putin and Trump are involved. i’ve always assumed it will just be a corrupt carve up and not peace.
Putin wants all of Ukraine, so he doesnt get all he wants. Not even close. This war will be going on 10 years from now if some sort of land for peace deal isnt reached, and there's no guarantee Ukraine will win in the end, even if the West keeps supplying them
Russia doesn't have the ability to keep this tempo up for ten years, no way. Barring a collapse of the Ukrainian military, how much more land can the Russians conquer?
So you want to give up land now, let Putin rebuild his military and do it again in a few years? That's certainly fitting for who you support.
Where does this notion that Russia gets a say on Ukraine joining NATO come from? They're not part of the coalition, and Ukraine is a sovereign nation. Sounds to me like Putin has exactly zero input on the matter.
