I don't like war! Trump will end it quickly!

He will make a call to Putin on day one. Whereas Biden won't even talk to him!

I actually had promised that I would never return to post in this forum, but you forced my hand. What people do not know is that Greenland not only officially belong to the Kingdom of Denmark by a court rule made in 1933 by the World Court of Justice, because the Viking Danes are actually the indigenous people of Greenland, because all of Greenland was unhabituated when the Vikings arrived and discovered it and named this humongous land of ice Greenland, to attract other Scandinavians to settle there.

The Vikings were farmers and pretty much nothing could grow on Greenland, so while the Inuit people later arrived from Alaska and present time Canada to hunt seals and fish, the Danes left and when they later returned to Greenland to rule and spread Christianity it was now all inhabited by the Inuit.

So what to do ?. Greenland is now legally part of the Kingdom of Denmark, that on the other hand respect the Inuit home rule and also spend billions every year on it's infrastructure, health care and education, so it's kind of a symbiosis between two highly different cultures.

As for the agreement between the USA and it's original Angle-Anglo birth cradle ancestors from Denmark, then when the USA purchased the Virgin Island in 1917, the two sides not only agreed to a sale price but also to a Danish demand for an official declaration stating that the USA would "not object to the Danish Government extending their political and economic interests to the whole of Greenland".

When Trump became president he had apparently joked about trading Puerto Rico for Greenland and was then later openly talking about the possibility of the US buying Greenland.

The US had been interested in Greenland in the past, so this was not a discussion foreign to US Presidents in the past, but the US have never disputed Danish sovereignty over Greenland, and Trump was quickly and firmly dismissed and humiliated over Denmark not wanting to discuss this subject, first and foremost because you do not sell a a country and it's population to another country in this day and age, not matter how small the population may be.

So the present Danish PM told Trump that the whole idea would be absurd, period !.. end of discussion. Then he threw a tantrum like a little child, canceled an official visit to Denmark, but then made an apology by praising Denmark as "a very special country with incredible people," and having his secretary of state Mike Pompeo praising Denmark's status as a friend and US ally. So kind of an apology from the USA to Denmark and this was the final end of it.

Thanks for the information! Very insightful.

    But it's not 1917 anymore.

The USA has grown a lot since then. And Denmark hasn't.

Denmark doesn't have the global security concerns that US has. Probably we even cover Denmark's security cost through NATO. How much does Denmark put into NATO? probably hardly anything

It only makes sense for Greenland to be a part of the US. Because then it would strengthen us by providing a big buffer from Russia/China the way Hawaii and Alaska do on the west side.

    But Denmark doesn't need this.
This will be a very peaceful transition as Denmark literally can't do anything about it other than whine.

Denmark has great people though! I had a friend from Denmark, very nice and cool.

Just think of what Greenland will become under the US. We'll populate the hell out of it and turn it into a huge state! Well maybe that's embellishing... it can be like Alaska.

This thread is about war, something which kills, maims, destroys. It's a serious matter, the most serious anyone can ever deal with, as anyone who's even seen the aftermath will tell you.

Because trolls are incapable of treating it with the seriousness required, they have no "points of view" to engage with.

Find somewhere else to deal with your evidently multiple attachment disorders.

    War is bad!

We have to look at the situation with objectivity. No one is winning right now.
A lot more killing is taking place under Biden isn't it?

    Trump will end. the. killing.

You do realize that the left, under the veil of Englels and Karl Marx's ideology, have killed more than literally any ideology on the history of the planet?

    Here's the thing about conflicts.

They are a part of human nature. We can't stop them. We can only observe and then try to figure out ways to make justice.

In the case of Europe, it is a land of many cultures and languages. This is why there so many damn little countries and borders.

This era of border making is unfortunately not over. If we want to move past war, then we must resolve the dissonances that exist around borders.

Urkaine is a super corrupt country and it has no more moral high ground than Russia.
We (usa) also forced Putin's hand due to stupid NATO antagonizing him. This was a good thing in US eyes because look at all the military spending it has spurred. #facts

Quite the opposite, you and Trump still have the mindset of the past time when you could buy a country and it's population. We do not because we have grown to know better.

As for Denmark's contribution. then as of June 2024 (when Trump and his supporters were all for pulling out), Denmark was spending 2.37% of GDP on defense according to the latest NATO Defence Expenditure of NATO Countries (2014-2024) report, but the numbers are actually deceiving, because Denmark have spend vastly more on military support for Ukraine per GDP than the USA according to the ifw Kiel Ukraine support tracker, here Denmark is ranked in a shared 1st place having spend 1.6% of GDP (not including it's EU share), while the USA having spend 0.3% of GDP in Government support to Ukraine.

If we are looking at the actual billions spend on military aid to Ukraine and not per GDP or per capita, then the USA are in lead with 50.4 billion euro (though this include replacement value that will never reach Ukraine), Germany 10.2 billion, the UK 8.8bn, Denmark 5.6bn, The Netherlands 4.3bn and Poland 3bn to mention the top-5 donors of military equipment besides the USA.

And though I'm not going to say that Afghanistan and Libya was not a mistake and not the way to go in hindsight, Denmark deployed 9,500 soldiers in Afghanistan and suffered the highest per-capita casualty rate of any coalition member, because they were deployed in the Helmand hot-spot, not to forget that Danish flights bombed approximately 17% of all targets in the 2011 military intervention in Libya (the USA were responsible for 16%, France 33%, Britain 21%) , with Denmark also being the 6th biggest spender and (along with Norway) being the most efficient in proportion to the number of flights involved.

So I really do not apricate your lack of knowledge, your hostility and lack of acknowledgment and support for a country that has celebrated your independence for decades, with visiting guest on the 4. July to celebrate your independence day, like Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Nixon, US Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren; Walt Disney and Walter Cronkite, US Attorney General Janet Reno and former House of representative leader Steny Hoyer.

If you want Scandinavia to be your enemy in favor of Putin's Russia that hate everything both you and we stand for, then so be it.

Embracing free speech and engaging in an open discussion is everything. Here in Denmark the violent far-left and fascist far-right fractions are practically non existent and do not have any kind of impact in politics because of this. The Danish parliament, from right to left, are able to have fun and joke together, find compromises and make deals across the usual party-lines, very unlike and far from the personal attack's, foul language and shouting you very often see abroad.

Thanks Ceres, I have learned much and this is why I came to this forum.
I had a Danish exchange student friend in high school and he was a cool guy! And a good soccer player.

However, what about this... the USA would benefit greatly in terms of our geopolitical security, by having Greenland.
Denmark will never be attacked by Russia or China. Or by anyone for that matter.

So wouldn't it be better for the world, since the USA helps maintain global peace, for us to have Greenland in order to bolster our strength and might? Then we can push back even harder against totalitarianism.

The Inuit's would not appreciate you taking away their free health care and free higher education and all the other $ billions spend on their infrastructure, and while you struggle with debt and to balance your budget, Denmark can easily afford it, because "tiny" Social Democrat Denmark has seen an increasing government budget surplus in the range of of around $9 to $18.5 billion since 2021, despite a huge increase in military spending's and billions worth of military aid for Ukraine.

So non of all the discussions you have about debt and spending's on Ukraine is of any relevance in Denmark, because all of the news media and political parties from right to left, even the ultra left party that used to support Russia and was all keen on leaving NATO, are now all for NATO and against the Russian invasion of Ukraine and for being in charge of the NATO donations of F-16's. But I will agree, that not being in need of money to pay for it all, obviously makes a decisive difference and also has a great impact on the general happiness scale.

Ceres that didn't answer my question at all.
Can you go back and answer?

    Also,
The GDP of Alaska is $65 billion.
The GDP of Greenland is $3 billion.

We could turn Greenland into another Alaska. And bolster our security.

Greenland isn't very productive land right now.
We will put the green ($) in greenland

The GDP of Greenland is irrelevant because it's part of the Kingdom of Denmark and are represented in the Danish parliament and has the full financial support of the Danish parliament all the way with no discussion at all. Also the GDP of tiny Scandinavia is as big and probably now bigger than that of of Russia, where the tiny 1% rich elite own and control just about everything unlike in Scandinavia, but even more so than in the USA.

In fact the Danish government is not only the least corrupt, but also "top of it's class" financially along with fellow Scandinavians Norway in all of Europe, so you need to compare the GDP of Alaska to that of Denmark and not to that of Greenland.

Again there are more than plenty of good reasons why Greenland belong to the "Viking" birth cradle of the Angles/Angels = Anglo Denmark, and not to the youngest "child" of the Anglo family, the USA, and why this is never going to change or happen. If people want to create some sort of conspiracy theory why that is, I'm all fine with it, but I have already done what I can to explain and reveal why it's historically so.

So apparently y’all are talking to a ghost that went to business school. Would you mind asking that ghost to translate Trump’s responses at the NY Economics Forum? I fear it’s been far too long since I was in b school and thus is extremely detailed responses went over my head. I could really use some expert help breaking them down.

Not to get back on target, but a short thread on the status of the front in the war. Basically, advances have slowed for both the Russians in the Donbas region and Ukrainians in the Kursk region. However, Russia is suffering heavy casualties in both regions.

Interestingly, Russian air force milblogger Fighterbomber is saying that Russia is re-assigning fighter pilots as infantry. That is crazy. Imho.
