Why would Lula's decision be influenced by Bolsonaro ? Lula has always been anti-American capitalism and imperialism. This is no surprise. He isn't pro-Putin invasion, but he isn't going to pass the chance to blame the US and NATO. Plus, Russia is Brazil's biggest supplier of fertilizer for agriculture. So there is self interest at play.
We’ve reached the stage where one casually reads about Spring panzer offensives in the morning papers …
Spring, if anyone doesn’t know is usually wet and muddy. Pretty sure the Ukrainians will take advantage of a Spring panzer offense from Russia. Tanks stuck in mud are so much easier to hit.

Someone is apparently attacking Iran right now. Reports of explosions at military facilities and factories. Anti aircraft fire in the skies in Tehran.
Drone attacks it sounds like. Several military targets using suicide drones, followed by a number of nervous Iranian AA crews firing at unknown targets.
The Soviet-era 203mm 2S7 Pion is the largest howitzer in both Ukrainian and Russian service, and both sides use it extensively. A recent photo of one in Ukrainian service shows them using a 1930's shell designed to penetrate armored bunkers. The only reason to be using this ammunition is that you have nothing else. Ukraine had about a hundred of them at the start of the war. Whatever they have left will probably be useless soon. https://nitter.1d4.us/UAWeapons/status/1619450204469723138#m
I think the best number we have currently is that roughly 20% (10,000 out of 50,000) of new recruits are still with Wagner after the last month of fighting, but that includes wounded, captured, and desertions. https://meduza.io/en/news/2023/01/2...up-s-losses-80-percent-of-50k-inmate-recruits
Agree but this does not look good on them you get that right. You can't complain about imperialism and then help the guy who tries imperialism. You can't accuse others of not helping you when yourself were attacked and when your time comes you do the same stuff. The biggest enablers of Russia were EU with Germany and France leading the pack. So yeah they are the ones who should help Ukraine the most. EU made Russia rich. The future dealings of Russia with India and China will not make Russia rich. I agree the Global South can stay out of this and should stay out of this but from this point forward their future complaining regarding how US or EU or NATO behaves will fall on deaf ears. As for de-dollarisation it does not matter. No one outside the little club will accept those currencies. Yeah lets heavy use a currency backed by Argentina that seems like a good idea Even the Saudis who threatened to stop using the dollar they threatened with the use of euros not rupees or ruble
Russia has been attacking Vukledar, at the eastern most part of the southern front, a lot for the last few days. Going by the video published, they've lost a lot of men and vehicles there.
This will be a major escalation if Iran decides to retaliate Iran 🇮🇷 is being attacked. A number of weapons / drones factories have been struck.Iranian 🇮🇷 Telegram indicates that Israeli 🇮🇱 Air Force has been seen over multiple Iranian cities.Seems Russia’s 🇷🇺 drone supplier, to attack Ukraine 🇺🇦, may be going out of business!!!👍👍👍 pic.twitter.com/W2GqF0gIoh— Jason Jay Smart (@officejjsmart) January 28, 2023
We went shopping in Vladimir Putin's Moscow this week. Here's what we found 🧵— Guy Adams (@guyadams) January 28, 2023
I don't think it serves your own interest to back someone, who just less than 12 months ago plunged his country into a conflict that put his country on the way to austerity and insignicancy. Something like North Korea, but with more nukes. In the process piss off those with the markets you want to sell your stuff to. This doesnot qualify as "pragmatism and prioritizing their own interests over ours", it's simply stupid. This simply is humbug for anyone with even rudimentary understanding of currencies, trade volumes and economic market sizes. The money needed to replace the dollar for these countries can only be met by the euro, which is part of the maligned western paternalism.
Weiss has a theory that US and Germany have shifted stance from Ukraine must not lose to Ukraine must win. Has the U.S. policy towards Ukraine shifted behind the scenes? @djrothkopf discusses with @michaeldweiss and @MarkHertling during our latest episode. War is over in May this year. The reason is that pootin finally realizes after the upcoming losses in men and equipment puts him in danger of getting murdered by dangerous people not happy with how he's conducting the war. He will call the State of emergency, pull out all troops from the Ukraine and deploy them in the Rvssian cities and let his dogs loose on his former allies turned into enemies. You read it here first.
And its not random units either. It’s Russia’s elite VDV and Naval Infantry units that are being used. Additionally, Wagner is being cycled out of the Bakhmut offensive and are being replaced by regular Russian units. A lot of people are saying it is because Wagner has fallen out of favor with Putin after going studs up against the Russian military’s failures while failing to acknowledge the fact it has been grinding up against Bakhmut for months now with little to show for it..
Once Ukraine retreated from Soledar, the north-south directed Bakhmutovka River east of there became the new defensive line. Calling it a river is a bit of a misnomer - it's more of a creek. If it isn't frozen over it would be too muddy to cross, but you can engineer a crossing or patch up whatever bridges Ukraine blew up in retreat. On the other side of the river is a one-horse town called Blahodatne. It was captured by Wagner today. The problem is, now that Russia has a foothold on the east of the river there aren't any natural defenses or even towns for a long way in any direction. If Russia has shown any ability to support and supply attacks, I'd be worried that they could go around and down and pressure Krasna Hora and even Bakhmut.
