Have to agree with Landon and also hope that he gets better, but better at what? Helping back in defence? Knowing when to make the pass or to hold the ball? He's strog, but at the international game for a forward he'd need to be slightly more physical. Imagine what sort of player he'd be if he was slightly faster.
That's what I posted earlier. I think taking players on in 1 V 1 situation could be something to work on, possibly?
Thanks for the link, Dr. Phil. That's another good article from Canales, with new interviews & quotes about the offensive options on the US squad. And LD's quotes about Herc are quite complimentary. My take on what Herc needs to improve - just his tactical understanding of the game, his runs off the ball, interactions with teammates, that kind of thing. He's got some great instincts & needs polish.
I'm not really sure how to compare those two to Herculez. I haven't seen them play nearly as much.....but they all 3 seem like very different types. Jaqua, skilled target guy; Rolfe, Josh Wolff type; Herculez, creative striker who can kill you from anywhere. If that goal he scored in MLS cup had counted (as it should have), I think it would be legend.
Rolfe is quicker, and Jaqua is a target man, those are obviously the two types of strikers that Bruce is looking for and Herc isn't that. Jaqua so that of a goal is need you can fire long balls up to him all day and he'll win 9 out of 10 of them. Rolfe is quick, he can turn quick and could surprise some defenders. Herc will have his chance after '06.
Thank you Beakmon. No, he definitely is not. To be a national team player, he has to prove that he can do his thing against the best defenses, that he can score even when the game gets physical. I think he can, and he deserves a chance to prove it. You're right about Jaqua, Sean. I think the US needs a target guy. That's why Ching is on the list also.
He sure does. McBride is a great targetforward for us. He won every ball in the air against the Chelsea defense lead by John Terry yesterday. If we need another target forward, it might as well be TT. please just dont bring The Hawaiian
Precisely the point I wanted to bring up. McBride won everything in the air against Chelsea, yet Ching couldn't win a single ball in the air against Scotland. Case closed: Ching sucks!
I assume McBride and Eddie Johnson will start up front. I assume Landon will be at A-mid. So who will be on the bench for McBride and Johnson? Twellman and Jaqua? How about Twellman and Herculez!
I dont tihnk he should be in the aquad either, but that's the way it's looking at the moment. I'd rather have Twellman than Ching.
The two today were classic McBride goals, he's on top form at the moment, I dont think I've ever seen him play this well.
We need fire in June. Who will give us fire in June? That is the question. Though probably not one for this thread.
How about we need someone to be on fire in May as well as June. I hope Herc can keep his scoring form and another scoring threat appears for the LAG or it's going to be a long 2 months. Just released... http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=296566
