don't be daft. there are very real fitness concerns with Højlund, Zirkzee isn't a forward and we have no other bodies. Gyökeres offers things neither of them do anyway
Great to get an away win and in Europe too. Amorim had to use players who ideally would have been better rested for Sunday against City to get it done. Is for sure getting ever clearer who should be part of things going forward and who just is not fit for purpose. Sadly a lot of those who are just not fit for purpose are our biggest earners in people like Rashford and Casemiro - so gonna be tricky to move them on. Worried that Amad getting the whole game means he won't start against City. Given how meh our options are that would be a big miss. Subs saved the day basically.
You are correct, but given Amorim will eventually weed out players in phases, CF can wait. I would get a quality WingBack ahead of CF plus Gyokeres will cost plenty and given our redundancies outcry I dont there is enough in kittty for Amorim to get Gyokeres. I'm more interested in finding another raw talent and turning him into new Gyokeres. This is I'm expecting from Amorim and this should be way forward so we can final end this fexking loop.
I am not. Hojlund is younger and has done more than Gyokeres did at his age. If Gyokeres was not PL material until Amorim got his hands on him, then I have faith he can mold Hojlund in the same way. Also we can bring in another guy being dominant in thr Championship and let Amorim mold him. I don't believe Gyokeres is so unique we need to spend another 100 for him, we have other needs.
i agree. the way things look it will need to be sales first. unfortunately we have the same persistent problem of illiquid assets no one wants. could have gotten Gyökeres for €20m last summer, could have gotten Guirassy for €20m this summer but we seem to overlook these deals completely the problem with developing a young gem is one Amorim already pointed out - he may not get the time. we already have one in Højlund and we have enough turmoil adapting to 3-4-3 as is. Amorim is no fool. he won't gamble his future on an unproven 21/22 year old with a shoddy injury history. the other thing that some folks aren't understanding is that getting Gyökeres doesn't mean abandoning Højlund. we need two good strikers at least if we want to win things or compete. we simply don't have enough goals from other sources to make up for it otherwise. i just can't understand the stupid insistence on persisting with overburdening Højlund and miraculously hoping Rashford will fill in adequately when he's injured. how is that the optimal choice?
It is more that there is another 20 million wonder roaming about than spend 100 mill to pry Gyokeres from Sporting. The job of scouting is find someone who has all the attributes of Gyokeres but in Belgium or Holland or Germany or the Championship that will cost less. Gyokeres is also like 28. Sorry we missed our chance last season but we shouldn't make up for it by overspending now.
I'm not objecting to buying Gyokeres, I just don't think financially we are in a position to spend 70-80million on striker. We will have needs elsewhere aswell and have to spend wisely. I'm merely suggesting to find a raw talent and nurture it into another Gyokeres alongside Hojlund. I hope PSG would come with stupid offer for Rashford so we can get Gyokeres if not I'm expecting Amorim do the magic he did with Gyokeres with another potential CF.
Gyökeres' success isn't because of Amorim. if you watched his last two years in the championship (and yes people will laugh because it's the championship) it was obvious his level was far above that league
Correct Gyokeres was a Sporting find, not an Amorim development He had a lot of bad luck before hitting Coventry. Not given a chance at Brighton, and when he hit Swansea he got COVID which stifled any real chance there. Gyokeres was a case of great scouting and then the president backing those scouts (by our standards we paid a LOT for him). I was at the Everton vs Sporting friendly in his first pre-season and you could already see he was going to be amazing for us.
Man, he may have been missed by majority of clubs but once again I'm not against signing mega dollar players, my concerns are -Not enough in kitty bag to pursue Gyokeres -Need reinforcement elsewhere - We need to change culture of manager coming in and signing costly players only to be discarded by next incoming manager. it's better to sign potential young players and develop them.into top player. -Spending big hasn't worked for united in a decade and this negates new hierarchial structural setup, of course you would need to spend big on 1 or 2 cogs to but no point splashing heft cash on each position. You do realize we are not disagreeing but just diff approach for buying CF. You may state quality CF are scarce.
yes, i realise we are in agreement. that was never in doubt. we agree there isn't enough money naturally. or at least enough won't be made available based on the budget and staff cuts. it will be sales first most likely on point 2 - we will always need reinforcements elsewhere. even at the best of times it is ultra rare that a club only needs one single recruit to be OK. as bad as we are, a clinical front man can turn many of our lame draws into wins and lame losses into draws. point 3 - true. but the issue there was not the price tag. it was the poor scouting. the reality of the market and dearth of top strikers is what it is. it should not be used as a mark against Gyökeres or anyone else. if you have a value alternative please offer up the name or names.
and just further on Gyökeres: some people are acting like he got lucky with a miracle season after being bad and a failure from day 1. Brighton sold him for cheap - Brighton is a well run club - must be bad. Brighton could never make a mistake right does well in the championship - but championship bad - therefore Gyökeres = bad also does well in Primeira Liga - but Primeira Liga also bad - therefore Gyökeres still = bad it's the ignorance of fans with these things that i find annoying. it's easy to be mentally stuck in 2004 and think no quality in the championship, they're all Stoke City brutes down there with no ability. especially if you've never actually watched. i watched him get kicked all around and still drag that Coventry team to the playoffs with his only help being Gustavo Hamer (you may remember him from Sheff Utd recently). he held that ball up, dribbled alone (not by choice) to carry the team forward, handled the physicality and finished with both feet and in the air. it's the same uneducated folks that also keep banging the drums of: Europa League is all shit football and long travel to Eastern Europe etc. all other leagues not named the EPL are crap, poor defending, farmers league - the PL is only good because of money. if it had to be self sufficient it's a different story. where do they think the best PL players come from? Solskjær bad because he went down with Cardiff and ignoring the fact that no one has succeeded with Cardiff or where they are today since that happened a decade ago etc. but anyway, enough of me
