United always bounce back from a bad defeat - that's what ten Hag always says right? well let's see it. no more excuses about low effort or anything else
Mount didn’t travel it seems. Dan Gore did though. He was due to be involved in preseason but got injured and has only just returned. Would be surprised if he is involved - probs just extra cover. Those that reportedly travelled; Bayindir, Heaton, Onana; Dalot, De Ligt, Evans, Lindelof, Maguire, Martinez, Mazraoui; Casemiro, Collyer, Eriksen, Fernandes, Gore, Mainoo, Ugarte; Amad, Antony, Garnacho, Hojlund, Rashford, Zirkzee
Team to play Porto: Onana; Mazraoui, De Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes; Amad, Hojlund, Rashford. Subs: Bayindir, Heaton, Lindelof, Maguire, Zirkzee, Garnacho, Antony, Ugarte, Evans, Collyer, Gore.
Good start - Rashford goes direct, gets a bit of luck and his fairly poor shot is flubbed by Diogo Costa. 0-1
dalot and licha both 2nd to that 50/50 that leads to their goal. Them the other CB, fullback pairing lose their dual in the air. Samu is a big boy, but still disappointing.
United and ten Hag really need to learn to be compact in midfield. deal with crosses better too. De Ligt should not lose out there
None of this is surprising though. We're just as likely to concede 2 more and lose this 4-2 as anything.
I dont understand the selection, playing two older guys who cant cover as much ground, together in a tough away game. I know we have big game this wekend, but this is something that will add to his list of blunders. We scored 2 then sat back?
The last counter attack. Casemiro crossed the ball. Eriksen was in the box. Bruno was next to Casemiro. no middle.
sadly yes, i mean we've done it two seasons running at Arsenal, a few times in that fiasco of a CL campaign last season, amongst other league games. we have more than enough evidence to show we cannot bunker effectively so i don't know why we persist with it. at least try and control the game and/or keep it compact. instead we see De Ligt at the Porto touchline on the left as the furthest forward. why?
We're a systematic mess. Either the players have idea what EtH wants, or what EtH wants is a mess. Either way, it's not a good look on him.
half time. it's looking more likely that we will lose this. our goals were flukes from blunders, the Porto goals were well crafted. somehow we've squandered the best possible away scenario in under 15 mins
Hate Thursday nights. Is a struggle to watch (if you know what I mean) and when I do get some stability to watch ... it is still a struggle to watch Martinez and Dalot side is being targetted as a weak area and sadly it is. Dalot has the partial excuse that he is not a LB but Martinez had just been really really bad this season - he is a liability in this form.
31 - This is the 31st time since the beginning of last season that Manchester United have conceded 2+ goals in a match - the most any current Premier League club has done so in this time. Porous. pic.twitter.com/pP1QO07gkL— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) October 3, 2024
Dalot nowhere to be seen, Martinez doesn't track or stop the cross and De Ligt is beaten by the scorer. Can't say it wasn't coming either as we let them have a 1 vs 1 right after the restart. All at sea ...
