So the list should be selected strictly on name recognition alone??

What, you mean the Damien "not elite because he doesn't play for Real Madrid" Duff who was the subject of £20 million bids from Man Utd and Liverpool during the summer (not to mention more efforts from Inter and Alex Ferguson during the transfer window)? The one that mid-table Blackburn value more highly than that?

I voted for everyone on the team of the year except for two. I'll give you one of them: Maldini instead of Roberto Carlos. This is no slight to Roberto Carlos because I actually feel he was the best left-back this year. But I felt Maldini deserved to be on the team. He was unfairly put as a left-back in the voting when he hasn't played left-back for almost three years. He has been in dynamite form this year. And if you look back at last year when Milan was playing badly it coincided with Maldin being injured. When Maldini came back Milan rose in the standings and eventually got the last CL spot.

Can anyone guess who the other player I didn't vote for was?

    1) ronaldo should not be on there because in UEFA he has been garbage
    2) im very happy to see Seedorf being praised for his comeback to excellence.

Pires should have been in. The best player in the premiership last year and a truly world class star. Harry Kewell? Don't make me laugh.

Have to say I agree that Pires should have been in there. My mentioning of Harry Kewell was not serious, hence the ':)'
Pires not being in there borders on criminal

Pires at times was nearly single handedly carrying Arsenal during their run last season.

He definately deserved to be on there.

No Pires is a joke....easily the best player in the EPL last year and when he's played this year. As for Oli Kahn being slighted....his CL performance was awful, so it's no slight to be behind Rustu.

Ronaldo shouldn't be there, hasn't done jack in the Champs League, and if you are looking at 2002 as a whole, he wasn't even with Madrid for their European Championship. Give it to Raul. Henry deserves to be there though.
