GROUP 2 Scotland 3 - 0 Poland (Ness 79', Emslie 86', Cuthbert 90+1') For first 75 minutes Poland has pushed for win, running a lot, pressing the ball, overall played better football and created more chances. Luck wasn't on their side though. In 55th minute Pajor missed penalty kick. In 75th Dudek was shown 2nd yellow and that was that. With 10 women on the field an error had to come and then bag with goals opened...
PZPN isn't intrested in making money. Canada FA did make some money on WoSo lately, France are making mony on it and probably a few dozens more national feds that are investing into WoSo now. In a few years they'll reap substential profits from it. In turn people in PZPN mostly reap profits from Lewandowski's name and aren't intrested of reinvesting a single dime unless UEFA or occasional public outrage forces them to do it. Polish MNT U-20 qualified only once (2007) during last 35 years to WC. Women teams in PL are in general treated as necessary evil and even on buissness level an idea of making money out of Women Sport still has problems to occur for too many people in here...
I didn't find available highlights yet, but RaiSport website has the full match. I hope it's not geo-blocked in other countries.
Unfortunately it is. Highlights might pop up on Youtube instead. And nearly 8000 fans at that game, I hear.
Yes, the crowd was there at the stadium in Ferrara and in front on TV also: it could be a very important moment for the growth of women's football movement in Italy. As you surely know, Italy men's team didn't qualify to WC for the first time in 60 years; if, in the same year, women should finally make it after 20 years, it would be huge and probably it would make people consider women's football with a little more respect than usual.
Things are getting a bit clearer now in the various groups with most teams having played 5 out of 8 games already. Group 1 England 13 points /5 games should qualify and Wales 11/5 might get a runner-up play-off chance. Group 2 Switzerland looking good with 15/5 Scotland 9/4 should get the second place ahead of Poland 7/5. Tight spot for a play-off chance Group 3 Netherlands 13/5 and Norway 9/4 will compete for the top spot with Ireland 10/5 trying to disrupt them Group 4 Sweden 12/4 and Danemark 9/4 will compete for the top spot. Head to head result means Danemark need a 4 goals win v Sweden should they finish level on points Group 5 Germany 15/6 and Iceland 13/5 will fight for the spot with the runner-up likely to go to play-off. Group 6 As mentioned by Blissett Italy 18/6 looking good. Belgium 10/5 might struggle to get into the play-off Group 7 Spain 15/5 well ahead of 3 teams with 7 points. Play off unlikely for that group runner-up
I'm sure that there's other sports that don't make no money but do get funds. What's a shame is that Ewa Pajor & company won a title a years back(Euro u17?) which showed so much promise to build on the future, but now seems all gone due to the lack of interest, development or funding/ Why on earth would Poland give up on being champs in something?
Indeed! It's a shame that in this video Rosucci's post-goal celebration was cut: our pretty blonde scorer was actually deserving full coverage.
very few full length games of this last week's have been available on youtube)(perhaps Uefa cracked down?). I found a partial one with no commentary from the Bosnia-England game. It begins at the end of the first half, then you got to sit through the break & finally the 2nd half starts at 19 min. of the video. But it's worth checking out right from the beginning of that half; Alex Greenwood, Rambo style, cracks right through the Bosnian defense. gets taken down in the penalty box. but incredibly gets handed the red card for diving! The Bosnian's still stay in a shell despite being a player(score 0-0). Ten minutes later, the same Bosnian that didn't get called for tripping Greenwood, gets a red card for committing a foul outside the penalty zone, this ref needs to be fired! Final score, 2-0 for England. Coach Neville still seems to shuffle his lineup rather oddly; despite a brilliant cross kick/assist, Melissa Lawley is taken out the next minute for Beth Mead(both should be starting in my book)/ Beth for the 30 min. she gets t play this time, gets the PK, plus a couple of nifty chances as well/ Duggan is taken out as well instead of White, even though the former looked way more busy than the later. There's also been a lot of criticism hurled at Lucy Bronze these days, that she's fallen way off from her previous stance. as one of the top FB's.. Seems like Fran Kirby got injured last game vs Wales, don't know how bad it is(though fans been blaming Neville for it). but she was Chelsea's leading scorer, someone desperately needed when they take on Wolfsburg later on this month
Anyway, Laura Giuliani rocks, as seen at 0':44" of this video : Also, more "artistic" highlights of the match:
One important point to find out who are the best runner-ups is : "The four runners-up with the best records against the sides first, third and fourth in their groups will advance to the play-offs, which will consist of two rounds of two-legged knockout ties in October and November 2018 to decide Europe's last qualifier." If you end up runner-up, there is no real value in trashing the bottom team in the group.
Yes there is!! It's a good breaching a wall and shooting practice for the real contest with the strong teams.
Yes, but on the other hand it does show team's hand..so to speak..and other stronger opponents can learn set up plays and tactics from it...
And we are back for two rounds of games : A reminder on the criteria If two or more teams in the same group are equal on points on completion of the group stage, the following criteria are applied, in the order given, to determine the rankings: a. higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question; b. superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question; c. higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question; d. higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question; Group 1 Wales v Bosnia Russia v England Wales v Russia We should have a good idea on the group winner and runner-up Group 2 Scotland v Belarus Belarus v Switzerland Poland v Scotland ( crucial for the runner-up place) Group 3 Ireland v Norway Northern Ireland v Netherlands Netherlands v Slovakia Norway v Ireland
Group 4 Sweden v Croatia Ukraine v Denmark Denmark v Hungary Ukraine v Sweden Group 5 Iceland v Slovenia Germany have a friendly in Canada Group 6 Italy v Portugal Romania v Portugal Group 7 Spain v Israel Finland v Austria Israel v Austria Serbia v Finland
England roster for Russia (June 8) G: Bardsley, Telford, Earps D: Houghton, Bright, McManus, Bronze, Daly, Blundell M: Scott, Walsh, Christiansen, Nobbs, Kirby F: Taylor, White, Duggan, Parris, Mead, Lawley Small roster, only 20 players. But almost a full-strength team, except left backs Stokes (injured) and Greenwood (suspended), and midfielders Carney (injured) and Moore (?). I like Neville's selections. He has phased most of the aging, over-the-hill players out, instead using players in their prime.
I don't believe that England can seriously win the WC as long as they got Millie Bright. She's just way too slow & clumsy; 3 out of the 4 goals England gave up at SBC where deflections from her being the last field player to touch the ball rather/surprised once again Leah Williamson(Arsenal) didn't make the list. She's does remind me a bit Tierna Davidson; smart, tall, athletic, young, agile, good tackler guess this again shows the Euro vs American mind set, the Euros prefer CB's that can be used in attacking positions(Bright's bright spot is that she can be used as a target person in set plays) whereas Americans prefer a CB that can actually defend. same thing can be said of Houghton, as I've often seen the speedier FB, Bronze being the last defender, when their high line gets breached ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- can't find now their announced roster, but once again Ireland will have to do without the services of Stephanie Roche & the world's best throw in specialist, Megan Campbell. They got two in a row very important games coming up with Norway, both still recovering from ACL's. Got the feeling their chances have gone up in smoke!
Moore injured, Houghton pulled out today, straight after her hen night on Friday and will have surgery, Williamson is replacing her.
Is Daly really going to play defense for England? I'm not sure I'd ever seen her play before until watching her play center forward for the Dash this year in the NWSL. I think the Dash coached switched her from defense to center forward early in the season-and the move has totally transformed that team. Daly has been a revelation--easily one of the best players in the U.S. pro league this year with her exceptional pace and her work rate. She's all over the field and excellent at tracking back. I think she was the NWSL player of the month for May. If I were Neville, I'd be giving her a long look at CF.
