Amazingly Switzerland beat Sweden, but still end up relegated because even more surprisingly Italy won away to Spain.

By playing seriously to win and giving it all on the pitch against England it means for Scottish to preserve honor and dignity but resign from a dream of becoming Olympian athlete. If they purposefully lose, the Olympic dream will be saved... but they'll lose all (self)respect.

How was it? "... subordinate to the interests of the English Crown..."?

OT, I wonder how much longer the Scotts FA will tolerate beeing told to bend over for the sake of their neighboors.

In all seriousness, no Scottish player will not give 100% against England.

First maybe 1 player could make the Team GB team and also you would question the mentality of a player letting her country down on purpose. Who would select a player who could get corrupted so easily?

 

No one here questions the integrity of the players.
Whats shameful is to intentionally create circumstances in which people will act against their best interests at a time when they are chasing their dreams and generally trying to be the best versions of themselves.

Yes but England ultimately won the game so it doesn't matter. It's not like they lost because of that mistake.

I found the reaction strange as well.

 

Winning by one goal like they did still leaves progressing to the SFs in the fate of the Netherlands. If the Netherlands beat Belgium, England have to beat Scotland by a +3 GD margin (i.e., 1-0 vs 4-0, 2-0 vs 5-0, etc.). This is because the Head-to-Head is completely equal between Netherlands and England. If England had won by two goals, they would have been ahead on Head-to-Head, and in that case, any win vs Scotland would have gotten them to the SFs regardless of Netherlands-Belgium.

 

Groenen out vs the team she almost switched to in her birth city. I’ve complained before about her minutes being managed at PSG, and I think fixture congestion in the women’s game is often exaggerated. However, it definitely seems like she’s played too much recently. Having tape on her leg from the start and going 85 min vs Montpellier after two full 90s the week before, I can’t say this was surprising.

Fans excited about Damaris starting; I hope she plays more to her standard today. Pelova and Brugts have to be better defensively today. All the praise for Pelova in her first half vs England, but I didn’t think she was good defensively in either half.

With Van Domselaar in goal and this match being at home, the Dutch should win. I hope they’ll win by enough.
