Tough draw for both teams from Paris and also Manchester and Wolfsburg. Madrid, Rome, Frankfurt and Lisbon got lucky. Praha 50/50
This exactly happened several years ago in the English Championship Division in a match between Aston Villa and Leeds United. Leeds scored in a like circumstance and Marcelo Bielsa told his team to let Villa score on the ensuing kickoff. One of the Leeds defenders did not get the message and tried to prevent the goal and Bielsa was furious with him.
Roma have sure been lucky; I only have a question: where do Ukraine teams play their home matches? I suppose Ukraine is considered war zone?
Yeah... Slovakia, Czechia, Poland or Germany would be a good choice. Ukraine WNT often play "at home" in Poland (it's Nations League upcomming game with Serbia will be played in Gdańsk) Up to date info about Ukraine football can be found here ---> https://womensfootball.com.ua/
Aren't these two points at odds? I mean, putting more emphasis on the top leagues means the weaker leagues that need to grow would instead be pushed out more. Expanding to six groups would be a good idea to me, though!
First point is right on. It would simply make it very difficult to build up in the smaller countries. We would end up with the same result as the men's competition in UEFA. Maybe four big leagues and lots of minnows. Right now, now Dutch team can keep good players on their roster and many lose players on free transfers as multi-year contracts are rare in women's football.
And UEFA rejected the Levante appeal as inadmissible. I bet Levante did not submit the protest on time...
The last thing anyone needs is an expanded CL. It's already got way too big and bloated. Putting 3rd place teams in the tourney was/is stupid, for starters. Too many teams, too many games, too long....
LOL, as if Rome needs a home advantage against .... this (totally unknown) club. Vorskla will lose by 4 or 5 goals minimum, each game, at least it's cool for the ukrainian players visiting Roma
FT 3 - 3 PFC can be proud, against the finalist (really ) of the last champions league. But may have some regrets against a weak WOB saved by Popp and a febrile Nnadozie.
Malard, alone in front of the keeper, missed the second one. Clumsy, the reason why OL loaned her to the english
Geyse was excellent off the bench and gave Karchaoui fits. United played much better in the second half, but their offense was still largely corners plus quality flair from Geyse. The start of this match was like watching 2017 Euro Groenen at work. PSG really should have been 1-0 up early on and 2-0 up at the half. (I'm not giving United credit for Hunt passing straight to Garcia.) Probably the best I've ever seen Baltimore play for PSG. Wonderful assist for Chawinga, who really has been a great addition to the team so far. I would have kept Chawinga on for the full 90, and I wouldn't have taken Martens off so early. It kind of seems like Precheur is just playing Katoto more for the sake of playing her. I think Groenen and Albert made for a great midfield pairing. Progressive passing and good/great defensive work ethic. Supported each other well in the second half. In the buildup to United's equalizing corner, I think Karchaoui should have followed Toone centrally given Groenen was already marking Blundell. However, Karchaoui also seemed to not communicate switching marks with Groenen, and she didn't make any movement to get goal side on Blundell. As a result, Groenen ended up too focused on Blundell, and Toone was able to sneak into the box behind Groenen's line of sight. That being said, I think any Groenen recovery block or tackle would have likely still resulted in a United corner. On that corner though, De Almeida did not judge Zelem's delivery well, and there's something wrong with PSG's setup if Groenen ends up having to face Galton and Malard at once in the air. I'm honestly not sure why Groenen is always right in the thick of things for PSG's defensive corners/free kicks; versus Lyon, she was often against Renard. I think she's definitely improved aerially (even had a good aerial duel win vs Toone in the first half that led to that weird Chawinga outside of the foot shot), but she shouldn't be in the most congested/crowded areas. Picaud struggled on corners today, but PSG managed to just concede once. Geyse and corners will also be a concern in the second leg; PSG need to finish much better next Wednesday.
United ejected three PSG fans yesterday because they were standing and chanting. 10 minutes into the game and they were gone. The fans managed to speak to PSG and United let them back in during the second half.
Roma-Vorskla Poltava's highlights: I won't repeat here the analysis i already made on the Women's League in Italy's thread.
