Lukaku was what, 7th or 8th? Bayern didn't miss a single penalty. Shootout shouldn't have gone that long. You can hardly blame Lukaku. A few more penalties and Cech would have been up. Whatever.

Good game overall. Definitely lacking in our mids. Oscar and Hazard worked pretty hard. Oscar is my man of the match after Cech obviously.

I like how Mikel immediately took off the Runner's Up medal. Essien too. AS opposed to the smiles of some of the players because they talked to that piece of shit Platini.

And who should have taken the penalty over Lukaku in the 5th spot? Out of the first five to take them for us, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, or Oscar. From those that didn't take one, Gary.

I respect your honesty. Anyways, good match. Glad to hear Schürrle put in a good performance, so I'll be following Chelsea a lot more than last season. Mostly so I can keep up with whether Schürrle can play a role in the WC with him getting playing time or not.

I would rather be a mid-table team with no trophies than to win anything playing Bayern's diving game. We have some players that are bad about it (Luiz in the ManU match last year, for example), but not nearly to the extent of those bloody bavarians...

I agree with Cech on the BBC just now:

"Everyone is regarding Bayern as the favourites for the Champions League and as the best team in the world right now, but we showed that we can more than match them."

The Luiz incident was a clear foul. A deserved red. Luiz was laughing at the fans joking with him.

Lukaka's penalty was embarassing, he looked like he was going to miss.

However, making 4/5 wins most times.

I think JT should have took the 5th.

Nonetheless, I feel robbed. Why was there 1 minof ET added to the ET? And than to top it off they scored in the 122nd min, not the 121st such bullshit.

In the long run, I'd rather be robbed in August than in May.

Chelsea captain Frank Lampard: "I think we deserved to win. But they are a great team.
"What can you say [about conceding an equaliser with the last kick]? It's hard out there with 10 men. You're all tired - it's early in the season. They might feel they deserved it by keeping going but when you get that close it's frustrating.
"We've got that spirit in us, which we've never lost. I think we're going to be very strong, very soon."
On Fernando Torres: "He does what all top players do. He was sharp, worked his socks off, scored with a great finish and created another couple of chances for himself. We were probably a bit thin on strikers last season. We've got Eto'o, who has great quality, and Lukaku, who had a great season last season."

Jose Mourinho: "The best team lost. The opponents scored two, we scored two. But they scored one more penalty. But the best team clearly lost the match.
"The best team played with 10 men for a long, long period in the game. We played against the champions of Europe and my players were the best team - we only have reasons to be proud to believe in the future. But I prefer just to say the best team lost and stay with it."

Mourinho has definitely changed. The best team clearly lost, Ramires shouldn't have been sent off and he brings up his "history" with UEFA.

Come to think of it, this cruel loss, may be actually be good for the siege mentality Jose likes to foster in his teams. Could work to our benefit. The boys certainly have proven that they can play "ugly" (or below par) and manage to be threats in games, they fight for the team, they show a lot of tenacity and look like they're willing to die for the Chelsea shirt, which was typified during extratime.

Overall I'm proud of the effort put in by the players. Lukaku should have done his defensive duties better (we looked exposed once he came on) but I'm sure Mourinho will take care of that part of his game.

Losing in this manner can spur greater determination from our players as Bayern showed last season and we may end up benefiting from this loss in the long run.

    Come on Chelsea!

Damn, what a match. I should be on the beach during my vacation and I'm cooped up in the hotel room watching this on an average stream! Gotta say no way in hell would this team make it to extra time under Rafa. The Mourinho effect shows on the defensive end, space is limited and the box is protected to the death. I do wish Mourinho had made some subs earlier, especially the Mikel one. Some thoughts:

-I honestly didn't feel good about Lukaku when he stepped up. I hope this doesn't kill his confidence. He was solid during his short stint and linked up well on the counter.
-Lampard needs to look before launching those long balls behind the defense. Many times there wasn't a Chelsea player close to being on the end of them.
-Rampard combo should not be played against top teams in my opinion. I understand why he uses them in this defensive setup to exploit the counter but its not good enough.
-Hazard. Great goal and always a threat but he could really pass it earlier in many instances.
-Luiz in the back was a rock. Future captain there.
-Better game from Torres today, i know he has instilled hope in all of us before but maybe, just maybe, he can succeed with Mou.

This team will only get better throughout the season and it looked like a preview of the 2014 CL final today.

Not really worried about a Center Forward's defensive ability

Hindsight is just way too easy, Lukaku takes penalties, certainly more than the guys people suggested should have taken one AFTER he missed.

Also, his name is Jose or Mourinho

    in terms of positives

    - we played against one of the best and most technical teams around with a man down for 40 mins and it took them scoring at the death to get an equalizer

    - over the 90s mins there was not much between the teams in terms of tactical approaches with Bayern dominating possession but us having the best chances

    - Ashley Cole kept Robben in his pocket with the only chance coming his way from a corner where Ash was not marking him

    - Luiz looked like an animal in defence and played a very good game

    - Oscar ran his socks off and continues to improve

    - Schurrle impressed with his play and effort

    - Torres took his goal very, very well and did work hard for the team

    - as much as I rate Courtios- Cech is comfortably our #1 still

disagree with Jose on the sending off

definite yellow for me. But he was spot on with the biased officiating. So clear it was not even funny.
