UEFA Super Cup: August 30, 2013- FC Bayern Munich vs Chelsea FC - [R]

Last year it seemed the team mailed it in against Atletico in this one, but if I recall correctly they were in the midst of a difficult fixture bottleneck. I think Mourinho will play to win on Friday. Chelsea's next game is Sept. 14. Really, it was somewhat of a coup getting the Villa game scheduled midweek last week, then getting this break to get things settled after the window closes and the team has a few big games under its belt.

 

I think Bayern win this one 3-1. I don't think the squad is comfortable yet with system. Defensively we've been very good, but really outside of a good half against Hull and one against Villa, we've been pretty poor in the final third. I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but I just don't feel good about this one.

 

Mourinho v Guardiola resumes! I want to see a great game here. Excited to see what Mou and Pep have planned for this fixture.

 

Prediction: 1-1 a.e.t., 4-3 to Chelsea on penalties.

Though I agree with lobo on a great many things I have to go with Blue on this one. They remain the best team in Europe by a far margin. In our game against Utd our midfield made Cleverly look good and that takes some doing and Bayern have their choice in very taletned to world-class midfielders. Plus I dont see any reason rushing any of the walking wounded (Mata/Luiz) who would surely help just for a friendly. Hoping the scoreline is 3-1 to Bayern.

 

Agree with Bruckner. I really thunk we are a couple of months away from figuring this out. And we can be really good. But this Bayern side make Barca blush with all the talent.

I agree. We won't win this one. Jose may set up an ultra-defensive team to minimize the damage.

It's not anymore meaningful than the Community Shield but I want this SuperCup trophy in our cupboard.

 

You guys haven't been paying attention. It's going to be 0-0, then 0-0 in extra time. Then coin flip for the win on penalties.

 

i like your outlook, just one thing though, weve established that Mou was a stupid name developed in Spain, and that round here parts we call the man Jose.

 

Haha, Jose is good and all but any part of his name is just as special. Plus they even named Barca's stadium after him. In Mou I trust.

 

Mou and Guardiola have a great personal vendetta. This game will not be a "friendly". Both coaches rested key players over the week. Hence why Bayern drew 1-1 with Freiburg, and Chelsea drew 0-0 with Man U. I'm not saying this is the main reason, but I think this victory will mean a lot to either Mou or Guardiola personally since its really early in the season. I call a close match, with Mou and the Blues prevailing. Mou calls check mate on Pep with Lukaku in the closing gaps.

 

Jose likes to win a trophy - it is a good way to begin a season.
