Nice to see Tiago Tomás out there. I'd love to see him round back into shape and really contribute again. Same for young Luca Jaquez. Promising talent.

Stiller coming off for Chema with a bit of a knock. Didn't look too serious. Doinked his ankle, maybe.

90+3' Tiago Tomas scores a cracker off a pass from Nartey, 1-4. This will be a nice comfortable margin to take back to Stuttgart.

I could use that hit myself.

We saw this one out very professionally in the second half. Didn't run anyone out too much, played very tactically, executed a couple successful raids and then locked it down late. Quality win.

VfB 0:1 Celtic in full time. Rather pedestrian performance, but we're through easily on aggregate. Now for the draw tomorrow to see who we get next.

Had to miss this match, but the lead was so big VfB went through easily.

VfB 1:2 POR at halftime. We started out brightly enough, but FC Porto got off the back foot by employing all of the Dark Arts.

No excuse for our poor run of play allowing two goals, though. We were a wreck for a good stretch of the half before recovering our senses and getting aggressive ourselves.

Deniz clawed one back with a beauty and was ready to go after one of the Porto players after he scored. That's what we need. If they want a fight, let's give them a fight.

VfB 1:2 POR in full time. Stiller's equalizer at 70' after a scrum in front off an El Khannouss free kick was ruled no goal for offside after video review. Looked close to me, but I thought we were on.

Very scrappy match. Porto can flop more than a fish out of water at times. Every tackle is a foul in their book.

But credit where credit is due, they have serious pace, especially on counters. They burned us repeatedly. They were quicker to the ball in open play more than I would have liked, too.

Kevin, Thanks for posting! I've been working on taxes all day, and I do mean all day!
I haven't been able to watch hardly any matches this year because of a crazy schedule. Your PBP and synopsis posts are terrific!

I am fully retired, but just have a lot of irons in the fire, and they all demanded to be withdrawn at the same time!

Yes, I second that remark, Kevin. These days there are too many things going on and I am working to reduce the obligations to which I am obligated.

21' Porto score to make it 1-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate. Lax defending on left side (Hendriks?) allowed an attacker to ghost in and put in a ball that was heading to the sideline.

Yeah, unless they can score three in the remaining time, or at least force PKs, it looks to me like they're out of it.

72' Porto score on a rocket of a shot from just outside the box, 2-0 and 4-1. This one is over. VfB are just about out of Europe for this season (< 20 minutes left).

With a red-card on Nartey in the 78th minute, you can stick a fork in them.:(
