VfB 2:1 YB at halftime. Got back just after Young Boys clawed one back. Apparently, it was a serious mistake by Fabian Bredlow to allow it. I'll have to wait for the highlights, but in all honesty, I'm sure he's more than a little rusty. EDIT: Just saw it. Really half-assed giveaway in our own end. Then a poor reaction from the defenders and barely an attempt at a save. Sebastian is going to be a bit pissed about that one.
Just got online myself at halftime. VfB with a 2-1 lead. Goals from Undav and Demirovic. Feyenoord are losing 2-0 down in Spain so I may switch back to this match if it gets too bad in Seville.
Wow, Sandro Lauper just rifled in a volley off a set piece to level. Credit where credit is due, that was one hell of a strike.
VfB 3:2 Young Boys in full time. That was one of the stranger games of football we've played in a while. Up 2-0 within 7' only to need a goal at the death to win. Whatever the Young Boys lack in talent (and it's a lot), they make up for in spirit.
The dust has cleared and we've settled into 11th position. That was a wild rollercoaster ride over the last 15 minutes of today's action. I'm sure Hoeneß is ready for a beer after this one.
So 11th means they have to go through the playoffs which is another two matches, I believe. Home-and-away against?? Nos. 1-8 go through to knockout round, and #9 plays #24 #10 plays #23 #11 plays #22 So, it will probably be Ludogorets, with VfB playing away first.
We play #21 Celtic on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. ET, at Celtic Park for the first leg. I'm assuming the second leg will be on Feb. 26. Winner of the tie gets either Braga or Porto in the next round in March: Bracket view | UEFA Europa League 2025/26 | UEFA.com
I see that matchup in the brackets, of course; but looking at the final standings, I don't see why VfB didn't draw Ludogorets. Odd.
P.S. I've had a very rough week, so I might watch this one from the comfort of my easy chair rather than my desk. So, if I'm not live commenting, no worries. I'm just under my electric blankie.
What's going on in minute 1? I have Spanish commentary so don't understand the stoppage. Okay, "crowd disturbance" flashes on the screen.
21' VfB f@rts around at the back, playing ticky-tack passes and ball gets stolen and easily slotted in, 1-1.
We're not at our sharpest, but good enough so far. But for that absolutely comical brain fart by Atakan, we'd be holding a clean sheet. We seemed to be focused on trying to come up the left side for much of the first half before finally figuring out there are two sides to the pitch. Sebastian didn't look very happy at the half. I suspect the lopsided attack was one reason why.
59' Demirovic scores, but VAR check ... yeah, he looked offside. Still 1-3. But it shows how udderly fragile the Glass Cows are.
Got back to my desk just in time. We're starting to really dismantle them now. EDIT: Fourth goal disallowed. But holy smokes, Kasper Schmeichel is an open gate tonight.
