ASSIGNON! We've been camped in their end for most of the first half, finally broke through. Really clean volley. Nice shot. It's 1:0 to the Good Guys.
And that's the half. We easily could be up by four goals or even five rather than two, but we're cruising in this one. Maccabi is totally overmatched.
Maxi Mittelstädt scored a PK in the 50th minute to make it 3 - 0, but Maccabi came back a minute later to reduce the score 3-1.
Okay, that was downright funny. Josha Vagnoman comes on for some run and gets on the end of a gorgeous Bouanani cross for a point-blank header. We clearly took our foot off the gas in the second half and let them in for a moment of glory, but no matter. That was a thumping. VfB Stuttgart 4:1 Maccabi Tel Aviv in full time. Nice.
VfB continues with the Europa League today vs. AS Roma. It is currently 0-0 in the 22nd minute. The game is on CBSSN & Paramount+, neither of which I have. I'm keeping track via ESPNFC's Match Tracker.
Coming in late to this one. We have a big winter storm moving in over the weekend and it's the Hunger Games around here right now. Here's our Starting XI:
There was a yellow card foul on Maxi Mittelstädt in the 18th minute. Roma took the lead at 40 minutes on a goal by Pisilli. It's now Halftime.
I can't tell you why, but around here, the mere mention of snow will cause all the milk, bread, and TP to disappear from the store shelves.
AS Roma 1-0 VfB at halftime. Just caught the highlights. Credit where credit is due, the pass from Matías Soulé to Pisilli for the goal was chef's kiss. Statistically pretty even, though. Let's go, lads!
There's a meme on that I see on social media whenever there's a big storm. Funny stuff. This one truly is going to suck, though. The timing is horrible: Sunday evening through Monday night. That's always the worst time for a big one. Everything gets snarled and it seems like you never catch up for the rest of the week. Or winter.
AS Roma 2:0 VfB Stuttgart in full time. Our boys played well enough to win. Just could not find the net. Frustrating in a lot of ways, but I've seen a lot of Roma in Serie A, and they're a good squad. On to the next one. Furchtlos und Treu!
The snowstorm is going to miss us, but we will get -23F in temperature (wind chill much lower) instead. Hmmm, I think I would prefer to pass on BOTH.
I hear that. I'm supposed to be on the 11th fairway of some golf course in Scottsdale, flirting with the beverage cart girl. "Sir, would you like a free sample?" "Hell yeah I'll sample that ... Oh ... wait ... you meant the beer."
Matchday 8, Thursday at 14:00 CST so 15:00 EST. VfB - Young Boys (Swiss). This should be a win, propelling VfB into the Final 16. My other squad, Feyenoord, are all but mathematically eliminated, and with an away match in Seville (Real Betis), I don't see them moving forward.
I probably won't be done with a business meeting and home until sometime in the second half. Hold the fort down until I get back! Furchtlos und Treu!
