Germany start with a bang. Remind me of their 2006 WC, which means they will be eliminated in semi final.

"Brazil at the Copa América? I won’t watch any games. Everything is missing. Passion, joy, playing well, so I won’t watch any game.”

“Am I abandoning Brazil? I will abandon Brazil.”

“Why am I so pessimistic? Because things aren’t going well. There is grit missing. There is will missing.”

That's definetely true. Brazil tend to win games even when things seems didnt go their way. That 7-1 lost definetely has impact, opponents fears them less now.

I dont think he hates the NT, he must have said that just to motivates the current team. Maradona has been saying the similar things because he hates AFA and always criticizes every managers after he gets fired. Yet, you still see him celebrating Argentina goals wildly on the stand.

Spain beat Croatia 3-0, with not really Spain way (less possession).

Pedri and Yamal both have 1 assist.

Happy to see Yamal/Pedri/Gundogan all play well.

Unhappy to see them all go damn near 90. (Yes, I'm selfish.)

Well .... that quote from Ronaldinho was part of a promotional stunt from Rexona to incentivize fans to support the NT instead of unjustly criticize them.

It was a bit out of character for him to say that. What is not is making bad decisions to make an extra buck.

Is Sir Robert of Lewandowski hurt?

    If so, how badly?

Mbappe probably breaks his nose, goes off the field, can't stop bleeding. So the technical staff tells him to go in (unauthorized) and just sit on the ground to delay the game so they can get a sub ready. Earns a YC for it ... :ROFLMAO:

France barely courtesy to an own goal.

Outrageous miss from the ref right prior to France's goal. Austria had a great scoring chance that was clearly saved by the GK and the ref gave goal kick.

Mbappe plays for himself or something. His ego is getting bigger and bigger.

Meh, he's a great player, but if they actually addressed their aging/injured defense, and/or got someone who could slow down Yamal, I'd be more vexed.

I mean, LPB have done this before:

Plowing cash into an already-strong attack, while disregarding and even disrespecting other parts of their roster. When they added Beckham, Perez took a sh!t on Makelele, which weakened their defense/MF when Makelele left.

May they continue the errors of their ways now.

tbf, they targeted their defense and midfield the previous 2-3 summers (Jude, Tchouameni, Alaba, Rudiger). Its been a while since they went out and got a top forward from the transfer market.

And Mbappe is coming in on a free transfer.

Sure. But of those transfers, Jude is a False 9 (at least as Ancelotti uses him), and Alaba/Rudiger are both >30, with Alaba also pre-injured. [I do respect Rudiger's game.]

Add into that Carvajal, who is also 32, and [happily] that's an aging group they have in the back.

With Mbappe on the team, Bellingham will drop back to the midfield. He can play box to box if they want. He is that solid on both sides of the field. They still have Valverde, Arda, Tchouameni, Camavinga in the midfield. Rudiger still has a couple of years to play and it will depend on how Militão returns. They could probably use another CB. But where they do lack is the LB position and someone to fill in for Carvajal. They have a solid squad and I think they will address the aging defense soon.

By the time Beckham was signed, the attacking players were aging and not as hungry. This is a bit different. From mid to attack they now have young players who are hungry to win and win more. What we could hope is Mbappe and Vini Jr. clashing heads.

    1. If he does drop back, it reduces his effectiveness; he's much better the closer he is to goal.
    2. Yeah "he can" play box-to-box, but he was rather ordinary doing so for 3 lions vs the USMNT in Qatar, for example.

They do have a solid squad.

But, where do they have a bigger need, up front, or in the back?

For me, the answer is obvious. Happily for us, they've chosen to invest elsewhere.
