It's nice to know we'll press high, but is it really a good idea for Slovenia to know that or does it really matter either way?

Best of luck tomorrow. Perhaps see you in QF, but of course we could lose to Switzerland. It would be nice to play each other.

It's all pretty confusing messages and gives the impression that all is not clear in the coaching.

On the one hand you have Southgate a few days ago saying that the physical condition of the players doesn't allow us to press like we would like to. But now you have Rice saying apparently we've started working on doing exactly that.

But also that Southgate and Rice have said he previously never instructed the team to sit back, which is odd given his defence that the team has physical reasons they can't press, and apparently we're now planning to press.

Hopefully whatever it is going on there gets worked out but at at this juncture either too many of the players are indeed physically unable to press properly, in which case it is bizarre that we are sending out 10 of the same 11 with plans to do something apparently physically beyond them. Or else that isn't actually the case, and it was always the gameplan to sit back and not press - in which case its bizarre we stuck by that for a second game, yet wouldn't publicly admit to it and instead claimed the players couldn't do it. Which still doesn't stack up with Rice saying it was never the plan.

Well I'd rather play Belgium than Germany at least.

Also If we didn’t throw away that opening game against France in the final minutes in 2004, we’d have gotten Greece in the quarters and Czech Republic in the Semis.

In this game just pick the other squad players.
We get a hard game no matter where we finish .

The team needs a good performance. Having another bad performance and the negativity will be dialled up by 10.

You can't ignore how important pressing is to modern day football. Be that pressing defensively, or high up. Any semi-decent team does it. You simply can't play like England did with incoherent pressing that allows teams to both freely play out from the back and and play with zero pressure on their midfields and expect to have any control over games, or get anywhere in the knock outs.

The stats for England's pressing so far are very damning, and the excuses over player fitness even worse and nonsensical. If players are genuinely so unfit that they can't press (which I don't for a minute believe is a widespread issue), then they simply shouldn't be starting, and indeed makes England's refusal to make changes to the line ups or subs before 70 minutes even more idiotic.

Just play a mid block if we are tired rather than a deep line

u don’t have to press like Man City but u need a reasonable press to dominate games

Wilshere should be playing in this tournament as our steady midfield anchor, looking forward to his 110th cap in the tournament somewhere....

Wilshire's best ever game for England with Brazil 2013 (home) being a close second.

In 2011 before his career ending injury he was England’s best player every game IMO

Gallagher for TAA then. Crazy how our lineups always get leaked.

He came around 10 years too early. In the Pep Arteta era in the homegrown player rule era he would have been seen as just as good as Foden same goes for a Ross Barkley. A good manager takes a talent and makes them effective in their position. A poor manager lets talent become aimless.

So if we win the group our likely path to the final could be Netherlands, Italy and Belgium.

It’s strange to look at that and say we’d still be in the easier bracket.

Could also be Slovakia, Switzerland, Austria

England can be Portugal 2016. Hopefully meet an exhausted Spain/France/Germany/Portugal from all the tough games in their bracket.
