We need you all this Summer. Come on England! 🏴🤍 https://t.co/kVrBFqUApI— Jude Bellingham (@BellinghamJude) June 13, 2024
I have never viewed the home nations as a threat to be honest. They play the same way as us but an inferior version of it. Any results against us they have had are usually due to our weaknesses than their strengths (and we haven't lost to them in tournaments since 1988 I think). Of these three I am warier of Serbia, than I am of Denmark. The danes feel more familiar than the Serbians in their style of football. I know so little of the Slovenians I can't formulate a feel for them and they are the last game. Also however up for a game someone is, by the end of it skill prevails. If anything mentally Serbia have shown to be quite fragile in tournaments.
Interesting to see how he does. He already has a great ready made ironic song. The words really fit to if we some how were to win it.
All to do with the war in Kosovo back in the late 90’s and our part in defeating Milosevic but many innocents also got caught up in it as Jenks said. I work with a Serbian that regularly tells me how much he hates Tony Blair, British and Americans etc. However I also work with many Kosovans who love Tony Blair, they see him as a saviour. It’s a strange old World……
Kosovo loves the UK. Remember when we played them a few years ago and they lined their streets with our flags.
That was NATO........however as usual the English (note NOT the Scottish) will get all the flak for it.
Actually, Serbia was committing atrocities against the Albanian Kosovians. UK was one of the first to step up and send troops to stop it and help Kosovo get their independence so they love us as a result. It was the right thing to do anyway.
Thank you for the opportunity to post this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonibler "Tonibler is a male given name in Kosovo, given in honour of Tony Blair, the former British prime minister, following his role in the 1999 NATO air campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the Kosovo War. Blair was considered instrumental in removing Slobodan Milošević from power, and boys born following the war were sometimes given the name Toni or Tonibler."
Yeah it's a right of passage as an englishman, I get that.. but just wondered specifically to the Serbs but it seems more Yugoslavia in general. Ah well, pleased the Kosovans got their independence either way.
Didn't realise how much of a non-header Guehi was. He isn't asked to do it much at Palace and doesn't win many when he does. In the bottom third of centre-halves for aerial duels per game, and in the bottom 10% for aerial duels won. Stones, similarly, is hardly ever asked to be the dominant centre-half at Man City - but wins a lot when he's asked to. Bottom 10% for duels, but in 90th percentile for aerial duels won Gomez, in contrast to Guehi, shows up very well in the air It's not going to happen, but squeezing him in, even at left-back may be an option in this specific game against Vlahovic and Mitrovic, with it being such a central and possibly defining threat of theirs We could easily go 2-0 up within 20 minutes and it could turn into a non-contest, but hard to see what we'd lose by playing him ahead of Trippier in this game, with the aerial boost he'd give us.

A lot of the Athletic writers want Guehi dropped for this match and it to be Stones and Dunk. There are also calls from for Gordon or Palmer to replace Saka. Midfield split between Mainoo and Alexander - Arnold.

Saka gets quite disrespected at times imo. He's not just one of our most talented players but he's also a player with one of the best track records in big games, for both club and country. He's turned up for England more than a lot of other players in this team but a lot of people seem to forget that pretty quickly, wanting him cast aside for players who've had one good season at a lower level and in a much less demanding environment than he performs in at club level. If Arteta gave Saka the kind of attacking freedom and defensive responsibility as someone like Palmer gets at Chelsea I'd love to see what kind of numbers he'd produce.
He suffered a groin injury in the last bit of the season. That was why he missed the last match of the season.
I'm aware he's not fully fit. I'm not just talking about these Athletic journalists. Dropping Saka for Palmer/Foden/Gordon has been a conversation people, both fans and media, have been having for months and there's not really a convincing argument for any of those taking his place. I think Saka is a bit disrespected in comparison to other players is what I'm saying.
Has its? I haven't come across it till now (when it’ seems like he might not be fully fit). I haven’t seen anyone on here suggest dropping him for example. Maybe it takes place on other corners of the internet!
Mainoo or Trent in that role in this system just feels like tactical suicide. The journalism and observations just seem way off. We can’t have someone that lacks positional discipline in front of the defence. We’ve got to press well and limit space for them to get their crosses in. Change the system if you want either of them in midfield. I really don’t get the game plan if we are going with this. Seems to be an overconfidence that we will dominate the ball completely and be able to control the transitions.
