Interesting though not surprising table. The prob with england being #1 is that it seduces the English tabloids to think/communicate the EPL is the best league in the world and therefore England is - again - fav. Wrong, as we all know. The EPL is full of Russian oligarchs, Arabian sheiks, US billionaires, who all adhere to "money makes the world go round". No profound interest in football, no football soul at all. And fail #2 is to think, because of fail #1 (EPL is the "best" league), the English players/the 3lions must be the "best" ones. What a joke....;-) Instead, #2 of that list should be very carefully looked at to draw some lessons learned...
I think you're confusing two very different concepts. Yes, the English Premier League can rightly claim to be the best in the world, due to the high number of world class players which participate in the League, as the table above illustrates and the stats from the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals also confirm. But to make the jump that because of this, the England National team will succeed is an unfonded assertion. English players will certainly benefit from playing with and against many of the world's top players on a weekly basis, but that won't always translate into success on the field for England in international tournaments.
