Sort of a tangential question, but how did Southampton get in the UEFA Cup?

I wonder if Reyna will see time for City.

    Get the VCR ready.

Could it be because they lost the FA Cup final to a CL team (Arsenal)?

The more legitimate question would be how did Man City get in? Fair Play, right?

Setanta has the rights to many UEFA Cup matches, but apparently not all. I guess these two fall in that category (as well as the two GolTV have). I don't think anyone ever said conclusively that FSW would not have any UEFA Cup games, but I could be wrong.

Setanta apparently does have the final though. :(

Southampton got the FA Cup spot since Arsenal didn't need it. Manchester City got lucky in the Fair Play draw.

Pardon my English ignorance, but what's a Fair Play draw?

The fewest fouls committed in the league or something?

cautions and send offs - the lowest team in the league gets the fair play.

I'm not an expert on this, but UEFA ranks countries somehow by how nice everyone is, how many cards they don't get, how nice the crowd is, and who knows what else. The nation with the best score gets their Fair Play winner into the UEFA Cup Qualifying Round.

The other nations with a score above a certain threshold get put into a hat, and two countries are drawn, their Fair Play winners also go into the qualifying round (3 total).

Not sure if the ranking within each league (top division only of course) is just by fewest cards or if other factors go into it. If the winner already made Europe, then the 2nd fairest team goes, and so on. It is possible to be relegated and get the fair play spot, I think Ipswich Town did this a couple years ago.

Man City drew TNS of Wales in the qualifying round and creamed them to make the main draw.

It's actually more than red and yellow cards. The referees are required to also grade the fan atmosphere such as how much booing and how much respect is paid to the opposition. Home match grading is a vital element in the fair play scoring.

    FSW vs GolTV Uefa coverage....

    FSW loses.....

    terrible announcers... bad game selections..

go GOLtv .... great game choices.. GREAT announcing teams....

    FSW...... trouble lies ahead...

I don't understand why it has to be one or the other.

FSW and GolTV can coexist, I'm sure.
