Today's 4 UEFA Cup matches involving Spanish teams will go on as scheduled despite bomb attacks in Madrid killing over 170 people. All players involved in the matches (Barcelona at Celtic, Mallorca at Newcastle, Valencia at Gençlerbirligi, and AS Roma at Villareal) will wear black armbands, and there will be a minute of silence at the matches. This decision was made in consultation with UEFA, the Spanish FA, and the Spanish government, after at least one team (Barcelona) approached UEFA to request a postponement of their match. The full UEFA statement is here: http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UEFACup/news/Kind=1/newsId=153147.html

Big mistake on UEFA's part, in my opinion, and I'm not sure how ready any of the players will be to play tonight.

All 4 teams asked for the postponement, it's ridiculous of UEFA to decide to let these games continue when football is the last thing on the minds of the Spanish players today.

I cant believe how ill-empathetic UEFA is being by agreeing to let the tournament commence regardless fo this tragedy. Very poor judgement on UEFA's part.

    Agreed, that's pretty classless...
"Business as usual"? I don't think so.

Come on boys, less of this ultra PC nonsense. Why would Ronaldinho be any less ready to play a game of football tonight than I would?

I do not understand this. After the bombings in Istanbul, Turkey the UEFA postponed those matches and made them played outside of the country. But they are not doing it this time.

Was that not because there was a perceived threat of more bombings at the games?
