Hi I didnt find a threat for this game yet, so ill just go ahead and open one... The official Eintracht-site says that 3000 tickets were send back from Newcastle. This means that less than 2000 will actually be coming, which seems very little to me. Im just curious, why is it that it is "only" 2000?! Are there any reasons? Good luck for the game against Vigo next Thursday! I hope you win and therefore can let us win on the 30th! So long
Re: UEFA Cup Group Stage: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Newcastle Don't mean to be rude, but I think the reason there's been no thread is that we're a bit more concerned with the three other games we have before Frankfurt, especially the two league matches. You'll be hardpressed to see a game thread until a couple of days before the match 'round these parts. That said, since our cup form is stellar even though the league form is dodgy, I don't see us losing in the group.
We should see some youngsters get their first team debuts in this match. Also would like to see Luque and Siberiski get the start.
For some reason a number of fans who applied for tickets were refused & many of those subsequently bought them from Eintracht direct. Some suggestions are that 4'500 of the tickets that were made available are now with Newcastle fans while Eintracht fans got around 500. I have no idea how true this last part is. It is also clear that as Newcastle took so long in giving out application details that many fans (and almost all of the foreign supporters clubs) bought their tickets for the match from Eintracht at a much earlier date & for areas beside the away end. If this is true then some Eintracht fans may find themselves between 2 sets of Newcastle fans. If I were guessing I'd say that we will have around 4,000 fans there but it could be as many as 5,000. The main thing is that we will all be there for a bit of a laugh & drink - take your scarfs lads - whirly birds in Frankfurt.
Lets hope, 3 point with clear result. I believe we gonna get it. I say : 1-3 Toon. @ Is there any webstream for tonight? Iwa
Given, Ramage, Bramble, Taylor, Solano (RB), Emre, Milner, Butt, N'Zogbia, Sibierski and Luque are your starters. Martins is the only veteran on the bench, joining Forster, Huntington, Pattison, Carroll, Edgar and Troisi.
That's a fairly strong starting lineup. I hope some of the kids get a chance for some minutes in the second half.
I'm following on Uefa.com for right now. Seems that Eintracht are actually trying to get forward while we're content to kick it around the park. 60-40 possession to us so far, though.
Midtable, 11th out of 18. 17 points from 14 games this season. They're up to a 55-45 possession advantage. Seems almost like we're playing for a draw.
Fenerbahce were awarded a penalty in the 12th minute, but the Celta keeper stoned Alex. Still 0-0 over there, just the result we want.
I'm watching on setanta. We're not lookin so great. A few defensive breakdowns, including a wide open header, that Given managed to stop with a hockey save(closed the 5 hole). Attack is stuck on the long ball to Sib, which isn't doing much. Milner's been somewhat dangerous.
Nobby booked, Given saves the ensuing free kick. This is why I've always believed playing for a draw to be stupid.
Four bookings in the span of six minutes, including Solano's earlier one. Taylor picks up one and the other two go to Eintracht players. Is it really that chippy or is the ref just playing 52-card pickup? EDIT: Taylor was off and returned to the field without permission, hence his yellow. What a stupid way to get yourself booked.
Halftime, 0-0. Outshot 9-1 and losing the possession battle now almost 40-60. Not the most emphatic way to go about trying to wrap up the group, but we're halfway home.
