The CL group stage draw is today (in about 12 hours) so i thought id start a thread for all those who want to share their nervousness about our next 3 opponents in the CL. Pot 1 Chelsea, Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, Lyon, Internazionale, Real Madrid. Pot 2 Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven, Villarreal, Roma, Porto, Werder Bremen, Sporting Lisbon, Juventus, Pot 3 Marseilles, Zenit St Petersburg, Steaua Bucharest, Panathinaikos, Bordeaux, Celtic, Basle, Fenerbahce Pot 4 Shakhtar Donetsk, Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid , Dynamo Kiev, CFR Cluj, AaB Aalborg, Anorthosis Famagusta, BATE Borisov Personally...i would love to avoid Bayern, Roma and Juventus from pot 2; Marseille from pot 3; and Fiorentina and Atletico from Pot 4. Atletico would have to be the strongest team to ever be entered with such low co-efficient points. Just taking a stab...but i reckon we will get Sporting, Steaua and Fiorentina. Here's to getting PSV, Panathinaikos and CFR Cluj
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw Based on the season so far we belong in Pot 4 Why would you like to avoid Marseille Grinners? We handled them last year, and I'm sure we could do it again this year. I'd prefer to avoid Celtic in Pot 3, as we can struggle against them.
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw Watch we'll get all the Eastern European teams. I see us getting Zenit and the BATE team. Plus we'll get Roma or Juve.
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw Eindhoven, Celtic and Cluj; that's my perfect trifecta. We'll probably get Bayern, Athletico and St Petersburg
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw i dont know anything about the second set of four teams in pot 4, but i want no part of that first set of 4.
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw Hopefully we can avoid Fenerbahçe. Away legs are never hospitable, but Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium seems to be a downright hellish place to play.
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw I actually wouldn't mind getting any Italian teams. Rafa seems to have the measure of them over two legs, which the group stages basically are. Three home and home matches. I would personally like to avoid Bayern, Villarreal, Zenit St. Petersburg, Fenerbache, and Atletico.
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw we Oui. [sounds like 'We'] Ricky Bobby: We? No, we are not French. We're American, because you're in America, okay? Greatest country on the planet Jean Girard: Well, what have you given the world apart from George Bush, Cheerios, and the ThighMaster? Ricky Bobby: Chinese food? Cal Naughton, Jr.: Chinese food. Jean Girard: That's from China. Ricky Bobby: Pizza. Jean Girard: Italy. Cal Naughton, Jr.: Chimichanga. Jean Girard: Mexico. Ricky Bobby: Really, smarty-pants? What did French land give us? Jean Girard: We invented democracy, existentialism, and the blow job. Cal Naughton, Jr.: Those are three pretty good things. Ricky Bobby: Hey. Cal Naughton, Jr.: Well that last one's pretty cool.
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw Anyone but Bayern. Have we played a German side with Rafa? Not a good time for a first. PSV, Celtic, and Bate please. EDIT: Forgot about Leverkusen...
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw I would take Liverpool Werder Bremen Panathinaikos AaB Aalborg
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw Anyone have a link to a site with live updates that isn't the crap site uefa.com?
Re: Champions League 2008/09 - Group Stage Draw Kudos to Cech for the award. Chelsea was in the final because of him.
