Moore shoots just over with Morris beaten. Glentoran make an attacking change, Halliday and Morgan come on.
Elliott Morris Paul Leeman Colin Nixon Chris Walker Sean Ward Shaun Holmes Darren Lockhart Tommy McCallion Kevin Keegan Stephen Parkhouse Jody Tolan This was the Glentoran starting XI, by the way.
Morgan nods it back for Ward on the edge of the area, great shot, great goal. Glentoran are back in it. Glentoran 1-2 Shelbourne.
Glentoran freekick from 35 yards out, deflected wide for a corner. Holmes takes, but it comes to nothing.
Freekick for Glentoran, but it comes to nothing and Shelbourne clear. Then Halliday gets a header in from a cross, but Delaney makes a great save.
Cross comes to Lockhart, but he can't make a connection, and then Keegan can't finish. Shelbourne then break, but Leeman breaks it up and clears for Glentoran.
Glentoran attack late, but Shelbourne win a free-out. Whistle is blown, a vital away win for Shelbourne, and Glentoran will have to score twice at Tolka Park. FT - Glentoran 1-2 Shelbourne.
A poor ending to an otherwise complete and total domination of Glentoran. We let them back into it but still 2-1 should be enough, we should beat them in Tolka on the evidence of tonight, if we can do that two wins in the first round will be good for the co-efficent. At the very least we should do enough to go through, unless a different side shows up next week I can't see Glentoran beating us 2-0 at home anyway. Despite the poor ending it was an otherwise good performance espically without our talisman in Joesph Ndo, and a win is a good start for the co-efficent, hopefully tomorrow will be another good day.
Incidentally, a champions league match between a so called prodestant team and Shelbourne, in East Belfast, the day after july 12th and from people at the match who have been onto me, not a bit of trouble whatsoever, not even a hint of it. If that doesn't help the all ireland league cause I don't know what will.
great result for shels and the LOI in fact if we want our co effiecents to rise it takes an effort from all the LOI teams, last year longford and bohs undid all shels hard work anyway at least shels should get another win now
Longford will never face easier opponents in europe, if they can't win now they never will. Progression is a must, winning both matches is easily doable too. Cork will have it tough but still doable, if all three sides could progress that would be fantastic.
The return leg is tonight at 7:30, coverage on RTE starting at 7. Crawley is back so Shelbourne could name an unchanged line up but Fenlon has said he may have one change in mind which is likely to come in mid field, with Moore and Ndo sitting on the sidelines last week both will be pushing for a place in the starting XI this time out. Though the fact we can leave near 40 caps worth of player on the bench shows the progress we've made If there are changes in mid field that means Cahill is the one likely to lose out, and he could then be in contention for the left back slot. Himself and Crawley played near 45 minutes there each v Glentoran because of the injury to Crawley and both aquitted themselves well, Cralwey should win out if fully fit though as he is a natural defender.
Halliday and Morgan are set to return as strikers for Glentoran. It's important that Shelbourne don't concede an early goal. That would bring Glens right back into it - but honestly I don't expect the Eircom League champions to have too much trouble tonight.
Match underway,... Heary concedes a throw to Glentoran... Shelbourne break, but Crowe runs it out for a goal kick.
Shelbourne: Dean Delaney David Crawley Colin Hawkins Owen Heary David Rogers Richie Baker Stuart Byrne Ollie Cahill Wesley Hoolahan Jason Byrne Glen Crowe
Glentoran: Elliott Morris Paul Leeman Colin Nixon Chris Walker Sean Ward Shaun Holmes Darren Lockhart Tommy McCallion Michael Halliday Peter McCann Christopher Morgan
Byrne's ball is easily claimed by Elliott Morris in the Glentoran goal, but Shelbourne get posession again.
