    Players who aren’t here:

    Trafford
    Lewis
    Branthwaite
    Harwood-Bellis
    Hall
Mainoo ( simply due to being in purgatory status )
    Chukwuemeka
    McAtee
    Gittens
    Edozie
    Philogene

Obviously not included more established seniors like Bellingham, Palmer, Colwill, Rogers and Madueke.

Kind of a shame both Madueke and Rogers were lost this season, I get it but it really would have boosted the attacking options a hell of a lot just to have one of them there. Now it’s quite bare out wide.

Shame really that Tuchel didn’t release Rogers to go.

Yeah, but I do get it that Roger’s has had a particular intense season. 52 starts for club alone must be among the most intense seasons of any player in Europe.

I think probably Madueke would have made the most sense to play both, but again I get it, he’s been with the seniors all year.

It’s kind of one of the issues I have with the current set up, sure players like Roger’s and Madueke deserve a shot with the seniors but we’re playing Andorra ( we could make up a team of Championship player and beat them ) and Senegal in a friendly. We could have kept the seniors still strong with wide players like Murphy, Barnes and Bowen and let Roger’s and Madueke play for the U21’s in a more meaningful tournament.

Madueke is at the Club World Cup so that was a non starter. Without that tournament maybe he would have gone,

Between injuries, the club world cup and the senior side. This squad has been weaked no end. If it wasn't for the midfield options I'd say we had no chance of retaining the cup.

Shame for McAtee given he was taking a central role in this team, now he'll be doing little more than watching City in this FIFA vanity tournament.

Some nations might do something like that but if he went to this Euros it would be his third u21 finals and he's already won it in 2023.

Man City manager asks who pays players’ wages after Under-21s request James McAtee and Rico Lewis during Club World Cup

Pep Guardiola has become embroiled in another club-v-country row with England after being asked to make James McAtee and Rico Lewis available during the Club World Cup next month.

McAtee, 22, and Lewis, 20, were wanted by Lee Carsley for the Under-21 Euros in Slovakia as England look to defend their title, but Guardiola said he would prefer them to travel to America, questioning who would pay the players’ wages.

Guardiola was previously furious after John Stones returned injured from England duty just before important games for Manchester City last season. He also took aim at England Under-20s this season for sending back Max Alleyne with fitness problems after they “pushed Max’s limits”.

He also hit out at the communication between England and clubs after Kyle Walker was injured on international duty.

The Under-21 tournament runs simultaneously to the Club World Cup and has priority under Fifa rules.

“I know the manager of the Under-21s asked the club for both players to go to the Under-21s but I don’t know the resolution right now,” Guardiola said. “Normally when players go to the World Cup or European Cup we are already on holidays, so that is why they go and now the situation is here and they have to talk.

“I joke and I am so funny… I don’t know who is going to pay the salary in these months, the national teams or the club if they decide they are going to the Under-21s. I don’t know who is going to pay it. I would say, the players go with the club. They will talk with the sporting director and they have to decide what they want to do.”

Guardiola was speaking before the England Under-21 squad was announced on Friday afternoon, and it does not include McAtee or Lewis.

    ‘Foden is family’
Guardiola confirmed Phil Foden will travel to the Club World Cup, which starts on June 18 against Morocco’s Wydad SC and will see further group games against Al-Ain and Juventus. Foden has not been selected for England’s seniors and says he needs to rest his ankle which has given him problems, while also revealing his off-the-field mental problems this season.

“Phil is family for us,” said Guardiola. “He’s a baby boy from the academy and becoming a star with us. We want to help him, that’s the most important thing.

    Not the Rodri we know’
Rodri will also travel to America as he steps up his comeback from a serious knee injury suffered in September. But Guardiola has warned against him playing in every City match next season like he did before he was sidelined.

“We are really pleased he’s back, really pleased for the reaction from our people to him,” said Guardiola. “I am pretty sure he is so pleased for that but he’s a long way to be what Rodri was.

“I guess it will be next season when he will start to be the Rodri, not in the way we have seen before the injury playing 70 games, playing every three days, I think it will take even longer for that because the experience in this surgery, we have always to be careful, otherwise you have muscular problems and this kind of stuff.

“But it is the first kind of step, for his mind, for his knee, but still is not the Rodri we know.”

Winter doesn’t think Wharton should go to the Euros. Will be another blow to this squad but with so many already out, Wharton not going will make expectations lower than they were before.

He doesn’t want him there even without the concussion. He has said it’s a waste of time for someone who would benefit more being with Tuchel.

He also says that Wharton never gives the ball away which is why he should be in the England squad which is just incorrect. The u21 Euros is two weeks away, not sure how long he wants the concussion protocol to last.

Our first game of the U21 Euros will be 4 weeks after the FA Cup final. When was the last time a player missed a month with a concussion that wasn't a product of a horrifying head injury? Palace are obviously just being opportunistic and trying to get him the rest.

He’s probably going to hype up the teams chances going into this tournament whilst knowing they are without so many players available and then slate them for doing badly forgetting we’re without players like Wharton.

It’s’ very clear it’s that. They did so earlier in the season as well.
And the biggest casualty of the team doing badly would be any chance Carsley might succed Tuchel next year if a vacancy comes.

Winter is clueless (still hasn’t got a new gig at a newspaper), not sure why you’d put any validation on his opinions.
