Football: a life and death matter?? What a monstruosity!! It reminds me in other way(Violence is violence) the murder of Andres Escobar after making Colombia fail World Cup 1994. It was, in part, because of that own-goal. I was sad also because of the murder of two football fans during a quarrel between River PLate and Neweel´s fans last weekend in Argentina. Horrible! they were murdered by the opposite team fans! Also makes me remember the murder of two River Plate´s fans by Boca Junior´s fans.
Yeah, well... there's a difference between dying in a fight or actually being murdered in cold blood. But anyone dying at a football related event is always a loss. Fighting is one thing (I don't mind a good fight) but keep your respect for the foe... in the end you're all humans with a mother, a father and a girl who all go crazy if you die. Sad. RIP.
I wonder how hard FIFA tried to investigate the Iraqi FA? They do not seem to have done a very good job of it, and FIFA should be ashamed that Iraq was allowed to remain a member in good standing despite these atrocities.
Very well said, Paul. Those athletes did their best, and they were punished for it. What a shame. What a damn, crying shame. Vive le AFC!
