Our middle hasn’t been our problem.
Everyone but the team knew they’d come at us for the first 15-20 and we weren’t ready.
We need to be hitting the target with the few chances we have.
Rashford has been decent and has made some good decisions.
Pogba is invisible, mct is more involved in offense.
Young is hot garbage

Thought both he and McT did quite well given the level of opposition. Last 30 minutes our midfield got a really good grip on the game. No excuse for Matic to get any more games this season honestly.

 

He gets away with far less than City’s Fernandinho...

 

If I had to take a stab at the number of mistakes Young made that half, I'd put it around 20.

Screwed up the line on their goal. Constant misplaced passes or blind crosses to nobody. Poor touches everywhere. 5 minutes late to every tackle. And when they gave the ball away out of the back Pogba (or maybe Lukaku) was in on goal if Young could play even a routine 15 yard through ball and he hits it right to the only defender covering for Barca. Just pathetic. Get him off.

 

Seeing the replay again Shaw was really all over the place on their goal. The hazard of playing guys out of position and in an unfamiliar system.

 

Your bias is showing if you think Busquets shouldnt have a red by now. Three clearly bookable offenses.

Young has been poor, but our midfield has done a great job of keeping the press up and winning the battles. Pogba's been fine, this is a game where we need to work well as a unit, not one of heroic individual performances, and he's played his part well. You might say we should expect more for the money etc, but he's the player Barca are focusing on, and the result is more space for Fred and McT.

Fred has been so much better than Matic would have been. Positional intelligence, but also mobility and technical ability to push the team forward. You don't need mountains who out in big blocking tackles, you need to get to the ball first or you need to stop players turning round.

Keep the back 5 for now, we've turned the wing battle around and the bodies in the middle are stodging Barca's play. If anything we've struggled most with their direct passing. I worry if we don't score in the next 15-25 mins, but ******** me I was expecting a pasting.

It's especially frustrating that it's Busquets considering how many calls he gets and how many players he's had sent off for his dives and playacting.

Fred and McTominay have really grown in strength as the game went on. Doing their job well right now.

Fred looking good and finding space. But every ball he's played to Rashford, Marcus has screwed up.
