People underestimate the turf. I hate playing on it. It's a whole different ball game.

David Wagner did it against us with Huddersfield. He is a good coach.

I agree. I will say that the last two games we looked a little bit disjointed even in the win against Newcastle. But that is to be expected with working out how we are going to set up and play going forward. Little bit of patience will go a long way here. Our rivals will have enough to feed on without us piling on as well

Why is Lingard still with the team? Were West Ham not happy enough with him on loan? He gave them a lot of goals for the short stint he had with them.

This game showed why we wanted Trippier.

It also showed why we needed a holding midfielder, and why Donny currently needs to play with Matic. Donny’s positioning was much better, he knew when to fill in for other players defensively as they pushed up, and he recovered the ball several times as a result. His passing isn’t special from the double pivot, but he is so much cleaner with the ball than Fred. He switched the ball very effectively and you can see he’s a player who knows what the team should be doing in possession, rather than just playing from moment to moment.

The problem is that, when you play him alongside Fred, you don’t get the verticality or the line breaking passing you need. He’s scruffy as hell with the ball and that costs us vital seconds when you’re dominating possession, trying to move the ball side to side to open up gaps. And Fred has all the energy but no muscle, which led to his challenges being shoved away with ease, starting in minute 2 and continuing for the rest of the match.

A lot of other things horribly wrong too. AWB screwed us with that needless challenge but Ole made so many bad calls - taking Sancho off and leaving us with Pogba & Bruno as our wide men, not bringing on any runners at half time, switching to an unfamiliar back 3 when obviously it was going to end up a back 5 under concerted pressure and offer nothing on the break…

It was individual errors that really landed the blows, but our tactical setup left our guard way down and our jaw completely exposed.

Bottomline is if Ole can't get out of the CL group stage away, he has to go. There is no excuse to NOT get out of this group even after this horrible start.

As for the match itself, I don't understand why Pogba plays the whole match when we are trying to hold on to a lead or draw. We all know defending is not his thing so why is he in there for the full 90 while even Fred got subbed out late. In a way, subbing Martial in for Fred in the dying minutes pushes Lingard deeper and he ends up playing that stupid back pass in that position.

The match also shows again Ole and his coaching staff once again cannot change or control match with subs and tactical adjustment. 90% of the time with Ole & co. when Plan A doesn't work, they never show the ability to make any adjustments to fix things. In the past, you can blame the lack of a strong bench but we now have a proper bench with Varane, Bailly, Martial, Greenwood, Matic, etc... I am a Ole backer but he really has not shown any growth with his in-game management.

Agree with Shaw completely on this statement as far as synthetic pitches should not be allowed. But he's also correct that it's no excuse for yesterday's poor display (they beat that team there before after all): bad individual mistakes and poor in game management from Ole are what ultimately did them in.
That is what needs to change if this team is to go places this season. Really hope the boys are upset with this and will take out their frustrations on WH this coming Sunday. Not how you want to start a European campaign, especially after falling in the group stage last season.
