Bayern & CBs was a bit of a thing in the summer. Funny to think that the first signing of the summer Erik had lined up was Kim Min-jea the CB down the other end of the pitch. Simple as - pay his release clause & Erik had already spoken to him and his terms were agreed. However the board told him to wait as we had to shift Maguire first - so he struck a better deal with Bayern. So Erik moves on to Pavard later in the window - but again is dependent on player sales that dont happen. So he moves from Bayern to Inter. We sign Jonny Evans on a free last day of the window …
I've got to assume there's some kind of pass off of marking from the middle that is designed to get us quick transitions and protect from late runners. But i'm not sure i've seen evidence of this, just a guess. It's been happening so often lately that it feels like there's some kind of issue tactically.
Bayern 2nd had lots of similarities with Brighton 2nd at the weekend; - weak tackling down our right side meaning RCB & #6 sucked far over to help - free man running into the box scores because Eriksen & Martinez do not get over to cover the runner Got to track runners (apparent problem) but eff me also make a decent tackle on the right-hand side too in order to stop players having to go sort that sh&t out (root cause).
If there is, its a horrible gameplan because its not working. I'm sure some are being told to stay in space so we can transition quickly when we win the ball, but the players need to have enough of a football IQ to sense when an opposition attack is dangerous and needs numbers back. A lot has been made about our defense conceding all these crap goals, and it definitely deserves some heat, but we cant win games when our offense rarely scores more than 1 a game. I actually think if ETH has half a brain, he'll realize Casemiro cant be the superhero that holds the midfield and defense down another season given his legs are going. Once we get Amrabat and Mainoo back we need to start playing two 6's. Casemiro needs someone with energy next to him that doesnt fall apart when he gets the ball. At this point, unless Bruno gets dropped deeper I dont know what we do with Mount. He cant play next to Cas, so the only option is to drop Bruno deeper which I think won't hinder him too much as we saw towards the end of last season.
Watching the goal, Casemiro is guilty of the same. He's even closer to the goal scorer than Eriksen when Gnarby enters box.
********ing hell. Eriksen is the reason that corner happened, and now he's the reason why Bayern have a penalty.
Haven't we had 2 or 3 exact penalties like this turned down by VAR in the PL this season? Haha, what a joke.
Casemiro has been doing this dumb shit lately where he drops in like a 3rd CB when teams attack. Matic used to do the same thing.
We have not been good this season, but at the same time doesn't it feel like we've also been massively unlucky? It's just like everything that can go wrong has gone wrong. From VAR, to injuries, to bounces, to off-field issues. It's just like, what the hell else do we have to put up with?
Today was always going to be a tough game. We should win all our other games. Would be nice to face Bayern on last match day with something to play for.
Thats who! We have experienced players letting us down in various ways. Running and tracking being one of them. Loom how Musiala just ran through our midfield. Casemiro couldnt even touch him.
This. People blame EtH selection for our awful away record - as if he should play two DMs against better oppo. However we havent had two DMs to select in years. The claim that McT / Fred / Eriksen / Donny are #6s is lying shattered in pieces on the floor. I dare anybody to try and claim that sh&t again. We do now have two options in Amrabat and Mainoo - but neither available yet this season …
McT on for Eriksen (as we know Eriksen cant last 90). Interestingly Bruno playing deeper than McT who is pressing higher. If Bruno is trusted more than you are in a deeper defensive role, it doesnt speak well of your defending
