Token of Appreciation to the Most Entertaining Team in the World

    Dear mighty Japan:

Thank you very very much for amusing us with your incredible display of flair, ingenuity, stability, fitness, goodness, work of art, and full of love tonight. It was such a very fantastic and romantic night indeed. Having seen you sprint at virtually instantaneous velocity, I was under impression that Shinkansen, linear motor cars, and TGV were rampaging all over the field. There is no doubt that you have portrayed masterpiece after masterpiece on the turf of Abu Dhabi. Tonight, you have merged all core disciplines that all football players and fans must put into practice but clearly are deficient in. You have proved that your skill and achievement is second to none not only in Asia but beyond doubt in the world. What a deliberation of the innovative 21st century artistic football!! Well done the young fellowship of mighty Japan!! Woooohoooooo!!

I’m still unable to convey how much I thank you for your performance tonight but at least please let me sing this song from bottom of my heart to whom I truly admire.

How do I get through the night without you?
If I had to live without you,
What kind of life will that be?

Oh, I need you in my arms, need you to hold,
You’re my world, my heart, my soul,
    If you ever leave,
Baby you would take everything good in my life,
    And tell me now

How do I live without you?
    I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
    If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?

    Respectfully yours,

    Hamatachi

but seriously uae was much tougher than anyone japan faced recently like lucky happy iran, weak russia & korea, cheating bahrain, and know-nothing lebanon. maybe because that was their home ame. yet mighty japan is always obliged to overcome under any circumstance. after oman, bahrain, and lebanon middle eastern teams made me disgusted, but finally regained my respect a little bit tonight thanks to uae

Well, we go home now being top of the group. I just hope we don't do anything stupid at home, and be like the US and don't make it to the olympics.

But I have to say no goals allowed in 3 games is looking good.

UAE played them tough, and from the looks of the play by play, dominated possession at the end of the 1H and beginning of the 2H.

Then, the dam broke in the 80th. Goal by Takamatsu, but the initial shot was by Tanaka. Then Tanaka struck again in the 82nd, gutting UAE and their fans late in the game.

    UAE 0-2 Japan

Oh thank god. I was afraid it was going to be another scoreless draw. I left the house at half time, the score was 0-0 and they took Hirayama off.
But Japan has now gotten past the first, and possibly the biggest hurdle, and held all three sides scoreless. Not pretty, but they got the job done.

Question for you guys - do you want a consolidated Group B thread with all the matches together or do you want to keep separate threads for all matches?

Japan was getting beat pretty badly in the first half, especially towards the end. There were several close calls.
But, things started going good when Matsui entered in the second half. He held the ball too long again, but Japan still gets extra power when he enters the game. And I think UAE pissed Tanaka off by pushing him after he got yellow carded. Obviously you are mad if your goalie gets low-blowed, but he was just going for the ball. One of the players shoved Tanaka by the neck, and you can see they paid dearly for that :)

It seemed like the worst thing u could do to the UAE forwards is to give them the ball infront of Japan goal. They just freak out, loose control, or have a brain shutdown!

whatever, they were very fast and able to get to the ball, but not good enough to finish. they had to shoot fast or the ball would be taken.

and Japan's defenders didn't give them many good looks at the goal anyway. good positioning on their part.

    The 73072
except for the right back - I don't remember his name. But he got beat several times, and allowed a high number of chances. Of course the really close header and the free kick which hit the bar weren't his fault. Japan was just inches away from being down 2-0 at the half! In general, though, Japan dealt really well with the pressure - a great (and fortunate) win.

...Playing the next round at home, it's hard to see Japan missing out on the olympics...

it seems like mighty japan is going to employ the most offensive tactics of the series. tanaka, hirayama, and okubo as 3 top. the key for japan in this game will be
    - how long okubo stays on the pitch before he gets sent off and japan down to 10 men
    - how effectively okubo curses uae in order to stop them doing the hollywood show without getting yellow cards
    - how soon japan score
    - if japan can get a goal first
    - if japan haven't had any water but rokko-no-oishiimizu the last couple of days

although it's very unlikely as uae still have the chance to qualify, i don't expect them to play sissy goal-packing soccer like those cheating bahrain and know-nothing lebanon. they will play for win and try to score as many as they can. japan must not allow them to take a lead first.

    my prediction
    japan 4-1 uae
    bahrain 1-3 lebanon
japan win and seek councel from zeus and bahrain get what they deserve. justice will be done tonight

I think Lebanon is going to beat Bahrain and Japan advance. Lebanon been playing good but they don't seem to get the job done. But I still like the come back Bahrain made! It was awesome.
