Game 2 comin' up. As is my (new, made-up) tradition, I'll let someone else do the next match thread! After a back-and-forth battle, the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team utilized a 79th minute strike from substitute Cavan Sullivan to earn a 1-0 win against Burkina Faso in the team’s opening match of the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup at Aspire Zone. The victory positions the USA second in Group I heading into its next match against Tajikistan on Saturday, Nov. 8 (9:45 a.m. ET; FS2, Telemundo, Peacock). https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...-win-vs-burkina-faso-2025-fifa-u-17-world-cup Tajikistan lost to the Czech Rep. in its first match, and pretty badly. https://www.fifa.com/en/match-centre/match/102/290184/290185/400020194
Let me plug this in here from our opening match vs Burkina Faso ... USA Lineup USA: 1-Aidan Stokes; 2-Gio Villa, 4-Christopher Cupps, 5-Ramiz Hamouda (20-Enrique Martinez, 76), 3-Pedro Guimaraes; 15-Cooper Sanchez (19-Mateo Tsakiris 85); 8-Jude Terry (6-Cavan Sullivan, 62), 10-Maximo Carrizo (Capt.) (18-Luca Moisa, 75); 7-Nimfasha Berchimas (13-Kellan LeBlanc, 85), 16-Julian Hall, 11-Mathis Albert Substitutes not used: 12-Jack Kortkamp, 21-William Lodmell, 9-Chase Adams, 14-Jordan Griffin, 17-Jamir Johnson Head coach: Gonzalo Segares Match report: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...-win-vs-burkina-faso-2025-fifa-u-17-world-cup
Sanches. And playing Terry behind Cavan. I'd also play Adams. Tajikistan is small and slow. Their LB is particulary poor, Berchimas will be running at will, we need a real big striker finishing the chances.
Some of us are old enough to remember the US U17s losing to Tajikistan at the World Cup!!! We took a victory for granted that time. Let's not make the same mistake!! This game is about REVENGE for me. That was a messed up competition in 2007. We lost our first two games to Tajikistan and Tunisia. Conceded 7 goals in those two games. Then, which is super common at this level, we decided to go out and beat Belgium 2-0 in the last group game. A Belgian team that featured Eden Hazard and Christian Benteke. Benteke got a red card in the second half after a bad challenge on Sheanon Williams. That was proooooooooobably the weakest U17 team since I've been watching the program. We even knew it at the time. Only two players from that team ended up getting USMNT caps. Brek Shea and Greg Garza. Both from Texas. You're welcome. The goalkeeper that pitched the shutout against Belgium? Josh Lambo of FC Dallas. His is a weird wikipedia page. U17 World Cup, U20 World Cup. All-Pro field goal kicker.
You can also find it on Peacock stream. They are very good at recording USA games for this tournament. I need it because I'm in the West Coast and a 6:30 a.m. game is a bit too early for me.
LOL, amazing. What a game soccer is, you gotta love it. (When that pass popped up, you knew it was trouble.) Not gonna make grand pronouncements after four minutes of a U17 game, but it's a sloppy U.S. start.
The lack of urgency or danger recognition by a couple of our defenders on that goal was shocking. Plenty of time to wake up and recover, but oof, the replays of that goal should make a couple of players embarrassed
The entire backline cannot pass to save their lives. One of the reasons other teams are happy to cede possession to them. I also find it disappointing that Albert seems to have taken dribbling and one on one lessons from Brenden Aaronson.
I know I’m Stating the obvious, but the hype is real. It’s easy to see that Sullivan really is a level above his colleagues. 1-2 more players out there on his wavelength would do wonders
Are you available in June? I have a few matches in mind for you to watch, at least at the most critical moments. Thanks in advance!
