The US is already qualified and the Czech Republic is virtually qualified - they would have to lose by 7 goals and even that is assuming other teams don't have a bad day. I predict a game with rotated squads since both teams need to consider the short rest time.
Agreed about the rotation. Each should be more worried about having tired players the next game than winning here. A tie serves both I think. A dreary 0-0 affair?
While I'd prefer we win the group in the hopes of better Round of 32 seeding, I also agree that squad rotation is likely more important if we hope to make a deep run in the tournament. Mathis Albert looks like he could use a rest. It also may not be a bad idea to have Cavan Sullivan only play the final 45 minutes in this match. I'd start Julian Hall to replace some production and dynamism on the wing, and Chase Adams can go up front -- he had a few dangerous chances in the Tajikistan match and is still fresh since he didn't play in Game 1.
US win: Position 4 or 5 in the winner's ranking. Yes, position 1 is doable but we have to score a lot of goals. US tie: last or second to last (11 or 12) in the winner's ranking. US loss resulting in second place: Positions 7 through 10 in the second place ranking. US loss resulting in third place: Positions 1 through 3 in the third place ranking. Whatever the result, we will probably match up to a decent team and not one of the favorites. We probably can't do enough to get a really favorable match.
Glad to see Johnson and Griffin getting the start. Can Cooper or Tsakiris play RB? Can't see Griffin in a back 3, he's too attacking. I guess Cavan will play on the right wing.
We look skill deficient out there compared to our opponents so far. If I were a betting man, I'd bet against us winning this one as it stands.
They can basically walk the ball down our right side. You have two players out of position on that side.
I would love for one game to be reffed like we are a concacaf minnow and be allowed to actually be aggressive.
Ref correctly calls no penalty. That said, the US is getting rocked. Luckily, still 0-0. But Czech Republic is no slouch, and as I expected, that 6-1 win they had the other day was no fluke.
It goes way beyond that right side, though. For me, the U17 side for a country as big as ours ought to be able to hit a simple weighted pass.
lol, the CR clearly knows who the big name in our squad is and they did their scouting report. Every time Sullivan gets the ball and releases it, he gets an extra shove or bump from a defender. They’re trying to throw him off US comes close to a goal! Nice striker parried away by the CR keeper, and almost spills into our path for a rebound goal. US playing better for about the last 5 minutes.
Yeah, every single player on their squad seems about a foot taller than all of ours. May not matter, but makes me nervous on set pieces.
CR seem to be able to get space and time with the ball at will on each wing near the box. Fortunately, their final pass or shot has been lacking, but this won’t end well if that continues for another 60 minutes.
42nd minute: Oh my, Sullivan makes an amazing run through defenders and runs the length of the pitch to almost score, but he lost a little balance and shot goes wide! my hot take: call me crazy, but I think that Sullivan kid may be one to watch if he had scored that, man may have added a few million to his next contract.
