thefa.com doesn't seem to think they are rejects:

Following victories in the Nationwide Tournament and The Nordic Tournament so far this season, England's Under 17 travel to Italy next week to stake their claim on yet another piece of silverware to add to their haul.

John Peacock has selected a strong side for the FISF International Soccer Tournament similar to that which triumphed over Brazil, Italy and the Czech Republic in July's Nationwide Tournament and the young lions will be once again brimming with confidence.

Hint: Logic won't work on the Euro apologists.

I do, however, recommend thrashing them about the head with heavy long objects. Doesn't really improve their thinking, but the action itself is wonderfully theraputic.

Well... the euros also need to start training their lads early on how to whine about club/country conflicts...

this is always good to read, as stated by thefa.com in their match report of englands when against yugo:

"Following defeat to an impressive USA side yesterday evening, John Peacock's team were determined not to lose further ground as they aim to lift more silverware this season."

least the english are starting to think were impressive.

Good to see we won and that England is starting to take us seriously. After signing Simek, Arsenal signed another American and is looking at one of our U-17 wing defenders--Drew Harrison. I guess when DC United's reserves went to England and beat several of the good EPL and 1st Division sides' youth teams it didn't hurt our image either. ;)

It seems we're finally getting a little respect. Nice.

Congrats on the victory for the mini-nats, and hopefully they can pull a result agaisnt Yugoslovia. It's all for charity for us, so hopefully we're playing with good sportsmanship. And, so far, we're undefeated. :D

Hey davide, I know you pulled this from somewhere else, but you might know the answer. How does Uruguay have 5 points? Looking at the rest of the info it seems like they should have 4 points. Do we know what their result was from day 1?

    Thanks,

Uruguay technically does have four points, but they also won the PK tie-breaker against Italy.

Ireland only needs a draw against Uruguay to advance to the championship .

The scorekeeper on the Italian site gave them 2 points for the PK victory, but I agree with you that they should only have four points.

Ahhh, I C. Thanks for the clarification.

So it looks like the Italians are out for the next round. Maybe the crowd would support us if we advanced? That'd be kinda cool. :)

According to BigEast, the US beat Yugoslavia and will play Uruguay in the championship game.

    U.S. 2, Yugoslavia 1
    Memo 1, Gaven 1, (Ashe)

Congrats to the U-17's as they seem to be tearing up all competition! Memo scored in both victories, and is beginning to separate himself as the premium talent to arise from the U-17 residency group. Kudos!
