Anyone have a good working list of U17 residency players, perhaps including whatever new players were involved at the Disney event?

All of the US based players are '87s. I'm not sure about Denny.

Lamar Chancey is an '87. He plays for Oakwood U-16's. He is small and very athletic with a great shot. He used to sweep for them but the last time I saw him play was in the Oakwood premier Memorial Day tournament and he was playing an attacking position.

If you had seen him play in that tournament you would have NEVER picked him out as a Regional level player let alone National level. He was disinterested at best. I don't know if he was hurt, bored, or overrated. The other kids on the Regional team say that he plays really well against the top competition, though.

It doesn't surprise me that Danny Szetela is showing well. He was the most skilled player of the '87's at the Regional camp last summer. He was playing right mid in the games I saw.

Denny is an '86 and plays with Stoke City in England. He plays up top.

So against Japan, the full U-17's played--and lost. The combined 16's & 17's played the rest of the tournament and did well, excepting the R3 match. I don't suppose anyone knows the lineups of the Regional squads?

Yeah, the Japan lineup looks like the A team that will probably take the field in Guatemala except for the keeper and Adu (if he gains citizenship in the next 70 days).

Based upon the shots/saves they played well in the R3 match, but might have been fortunate to get a draw in the R4 match.

Still, some promising results by the younger team.

Am I reading this correctly, that the U17's are carrying 4 keepers? (Westberg, Marfuggi, Rein, Sandbo)

If so any insight into that? I always thought that the U17's only had two keepers? Good news I assume.

There have been some additions deletions to the residency program, with perhaps a few more coming soon. I'll see if I can find a current roster of residency.

You know, if you send your son to this program, and he enters this accelerated academic program and then all of a sudden he's sent home because you only have room for 30 or so players and they want to see someone else, it puts that family in a pretty big pickle. Think that might make families think twice about agreeing to residency in the future?

That expanded regional residency idea is looking better all the time.

Seems to me that if a player is brought into the program that there should be some sort of committment to see them through to the end of the academic year. Anything less is unacceptable!

The Japanese have very good youth programs and on the whole are significantly better than ours in terms of skill development.

Westberg is based in France, but he's played for the U-17 team quite a bit. The other three keepers were in residency last semester. They're carrying 3 keepers now that they've expanded the program to 30 players.
