Just curious if anyone knows how the U17MNT coaches are doing at Bradenton, how (or if) the players are adjusting to the new coaches, and if anyone has seen a spring roster.
All I know is that Cabrera coached at Blau Weiss Gottschee in Queens, NY. The anti US pay for play club. They don't reward brute force, they teach tactics, their dues are minimal as they aren't in it to win big tournies or make money, and they care most about developing players. Everything most USSF/ODP/big club coaches stay away from in order to ensure they win, or are just to stupid to know how to do properly. IOW's, I have high hopes that they will develop better soccer players. Now only if we could get Manny Schellscheidt a position with more power. Nah, a little to rough politically and he like smart tactcial players. We gotta wait afew more years. Getting there. Getting there.
i can tell you from experience manny schellshiedt is not concerned with the big physical players as much as he is the smart, technically sound youngsters. US soccer needs more folks like him. If Gulati has any brains whatsoever, he would give Manny S. increased power. Gotta love his accent also.
Damn straight but Manny is old school. He doesn't play the USSF poiltical game properly. At one point I heard they wanted to get rid of him because of politics. Here is a guy who should have more power and they want to get rid of him. Man, the USSF is depressing at times. I'm sure the big club/connected/political guys will come running over here eventually screaming in defense of themselves. It becomes obvious who they are after a while. Give me a dozen Manny's and a dozen programs like Blau Weiss around the counrty and our talent level and players understanding would go to the next level quickly. Passing on the ground, tactcial awarenss, concerned with developing actual players would be the goal. Sigh. This is the stuff that just sickens me about the game here today. We have the means... ...just not the brains. Our youth coaches and USSF have proved this beyond a dount over th elast decade. We need those guys out dammit.
Heard that one fall semester player chose not to return; one fall semester player came back in January and then immediately left; and, two Texas players just invited left immediately. Thought that residency was every young soccer players dream .. . what goes that they are leaving? Thought the atmosphere would improve with the changes in the coaching staff. Any insight?
My guess is that they probably just couldn't handle it, nothing wrong with that they are still only 16 years old.
Heard he sucks. Ran one of Cali's top players out already and more Region 4 players are going to follow. Even the Spanish players hate him, even starters, so you know he must be bad.
Who did he run out? He probably just hurt someone's ego. If any of those guys were happier under Hackworth, they probably don't need to be there.
OK, I'll bite. Who did he run off? I'm gonna need a name if you want me to believe you. And how did he run him off? Did he tell him to leave or did the kid just opt not to come back? I'm not saying you're lying. Not every coach is gonna fit with every player. It's quite possible some players won't be his type. But, if we're gonna say he's running players off, I think we need some names.
You are completely wrong! The kids who have made the "commitment" to the residency program have a tremendous amount of respect for him. The environment at Bradenton is not for everyone. These are young kids we are talking about!! Your "soccer life" begins at 6:30 in the morning and is over at 5:30 when school lets out....5 days a week. Then there are additional evening demands, of which one is study hall. After a good night's sleep on Friday (not really), the kids get up for Saturday training. While doing all of this, these kids are sacrificing some of the important social aspects of their life. They miss their friends back home (remember these guys are 15/16). Should you attempt to "slack off" on the field or in the classroom, you will be reminded very quickly of the expectations at Bradenton. The thing I hear most often about this coach is he is "fair". Your success is earned. There are "many" talented players in this country and not everyone of them ends up at Bradenton.....and I do not have to tell you how many contributors to the BS forum feel that many players "supposedly" get "left out". In the long run, most of the country's top youth soccer players will achieve some type of sucesss and will take a career path they are comfortable with.....which is important. Just don't bash this coach!
I heard the coaches are fair. They are demmanding and asking from discipline on and out of the field. This is a tough environment. Those kids are competiting every day to impress the coaches that they are belong in this program. The coach is cleared: the kids need to understand the demands to wear the USA Soccer T-shirt and they need to be proud of it. This environement is not for every player. You need to be committed to the game.
Plus, as I recall from Barry Alvarez's line of thinking, you just have to run a couple of worst players out of the team, so it serves as a lesson to the others. Yiou kick a little ass, others take notice. As long as you are fair.
