2 - f****ng - nil. Bradley with two goals. That didn't suck. Frankie goes the full 90 at CCS. The rain stopped for the entire game, and started back up right after. God is a football fan, apparently.
Frankie had a hell of a performance. So good that I don't think Bradley should sign off that spot to Cherundolo just yet. Frankie should be proud of what he did tonight. Micheal Bradley can pull a trigger, what a way for him to step up. Everyone thinks it's just because he is the coaches son. But, after seeing his screamer a couple weeks back for his German side and this performance, kid can play. Ericksson isn't the problem, it's just that America is a much more superior side at the moment. Instead of looking at Sven as the problem, it's time for Mexico to grow a sack and look at themselves in the mirror. Also, kind of scary to think if our whole nation was into soccer how good we would be. Geez, Mexico mise well not even show up that day. And, finally.. stopping traffic.
A couple more things, That hail storm sucked my balls. I was in 140 and super jealous of anyone who got on the stage. That setup for some reason reminded me of a minature version of Borussia Dortmund. Crew are sort of a softer version of Millwall and US Supporters are sort of turning into a more friendly version of English supporters. I felt like we were going to war going down Summit. Some crazy f**kers if u just want to step out into Summit Street traffic.
I thought Frankie had a very solid game. Was disappointed Robbie did not make the field. I feel he could have been a big help on the outside (that was the USA's weakest area all night). Good to see Mike Bradley maturing. His goals were great.
Few comments: I thought Boca had a bad game but he has been a good player for long enough that I can give him a pass. I dont like Ching only because I am not a fan of the way he plays. I feel like he only brings the ability to hold the ball up and head it. Granted thats what they need him to do but for me I want more from the forward. Donovan made some big plays (assist and corner header) but I also thought he looked off with his passing and is quick decision making. I like the Sasha and Bradley pairing. I am looking forward to seeing how those two work together as they get more comfortable with each other. Bradley's passing which has often been considered his weakness was excellent. Howard did his thing and made big saves
Any chance of somehow getting a copy of the game? Online, somebody DVR and copy like CrewDuff did with the MLSCup game?
http://http://www.univision.com/content/video.jhtml?cid=1835856&channelName=Videos&_requestid=304838 Classy act by one of the Mexican assistant coaches.
Couple more questions. Was that U.S.-ay just something that happened spotaneous? Never heard that before but loved it. Also anyone else notice the Nordecke influence with the "YSA" "We Love You" and even bowing down for Beasley on corner kicks like he was Schelotto. I thought the first two were pretty tight, although for some reason "Cause We Support Columbus" rolls off the tongue better then anything else I have heard for that song. But, the third, lol, I just found funny. The first few times Beasley went over there, we didn't even chant his name, just bowed down to him. I was like what the hell are we doing? lol. I almost fouled up and said "Schelotto" when we finally started to chant "Beasley."
They dive like girls, they play like girls, and apparently they fight like girls. Probably the assistant (Mr. Mullet) got annoyed because Frankie wasn't interested in listening to Mr. Mullet's bullshit.
Man, I still have the Ruby's cam up from earlier in the day and there are still quite a bit of people there. Crazy. There also are some nice looking girls bending over playing pool which is pretty rad.
Just saw the video, finally, and I just saw why Marquez got sent off. I thought it was just body contact seeing it live, and thought something happened after the fact. Didn't see the cleat job. What a frickin' hack. That was just plain stupid. Some luck for the U.S., though. We were lucky that Mexico didn't tie that thing at 1-1, and then they go down to 10 seconds later. Oye. Watching on DVR when I got home, this honestly didn't seem like a great match to me. No real flow, a lot of choppy play, and not a lot of great attacking possession for either team. There were moments, but it seemed like the conditions really brought play down a couple of levels. It's amazing how atmosphere can make a match seem better than it is. Did that guy on the video actually slap Frankie? Jeez. Must have been trying to make up for the bitch-slapping that took place on the field.
Can we say that were surprised Mexican coaches would slap a player? What a f*cking douche I hope these f*cks stumble their ass out of the WC
I hope I'm not in the minority but as happy as I am that the US got 3 points, I'm more happy that the match is over so that we can start concentrating on much more important matters, like defending the Cup.
Good result, not so good game. I'll take it. Weather really prevented it from being much more than a scrappy affair. I missed the first half, but gotta say that the crowd looked great. Good job by the players and fans.
The funny, or not funny, thing is that Mexico actually usually seems to play a pretty clean game against other countries (minus some diving, but they're no worse than most everyone else). But against the U.S. they turn into a bunch of hacks. And when they're losing to the U.S., they completely lose their heads and turn into a team full of Dema Kovas. I was so excited for that second goal because of all the hard (non-called) fouls they delivered the last 5-10 minutes. And I understand the playing on due to posession/advantage, to one particularly bad one, but how did he not go back and administer the card? Wish I could remember more specific right now. There were actually 2 or 3 potentially cardable offenses in a row, right down in front of me (Southeast sideline).
Misunderstanding by their douchebag assistant coach. Frankie was yelling "F Ya" to the fans as he was leaving the field and the coach apparently thought he was yelling "F You" to them. The assistant coach then got his panties in a wad, confronted him in the tunnel and slapped Super Franke. Cops stepped in and and broke the whole ordeal up, which evidently rankled the Mexican staff, players and media quite a bit that cops would get involved.
Frankie was the man last night. If that was his last game at CCS for the Nats then he went out in style. Frankie being Frankie by getting that corner that setup the first Bradley goal. Bravo! I thought Donovan was so-so but got pushed off the ball a lot. Dempsey also didn't have a spectacular game. Ching looked like the poor man's Moreno out there and if Beasley had any sort of touch this could have been 3-0 or 4-0. Overall it was a great game by both sides given the weather and pitch. We just capitalized on our chances where Mexico didn't. Of course Daniel-san didn't help them out either. Lastly I thought the ref did a great job with the calls. A little ticky-tack towards the end but nothing that changed the flow or direction of the game. 2-0 baby!
I had a perfect view of it live. I couldn't believe he had the gall to protest. Marquez has a real talent for douchbaggery in games against the US. I feel like I got hit by a train this morning.
Quick thoughts on the players: as most have said Donovan looked awful, especially in the second half. Only player who looked worse was Ching. Beas was spotty, some good some bad. Clint, like Beas, was spotty, though more good than bad. Only complaint is that he needs to realize he's not getting calls and stop letting himself fall and start fighting through tackles/fouls when that becomes apparent. Bradley was solid, though I didn't think he did as well as most here seem to so far. Thought Sasha K was maybe our best player (except his one extremely bad square pass in the second half that should have gifted mexico a goal). I may be biased, but I thought Frankie was our best defender. Central D did decent, not great. Pearce (sp?) was okay, but probably the weak link on D and didn't do too much on Offense either. Howard was solid. Did quite well for the weather. One complaint was letting balls roll out for goal kicks in the second half. I know he was trying to waste time, but then he's kicking into the wind which resulted in relatevely short goal kicks. But that was my impression from the stand. I recorded the 3am replay to watch later.
