Last I heard was about 10,000. That was a month ago, but I haven't seen much about it in the Seattle papers. (at least the online versions) Maybe someone in the NW can chime in with some info? Kevin
Not reliable.... I just spoke to a guy from Ticketmaster and the figure he quoted me was 30k. This can't be right. Things being what they are, we'll be lucky to draw this many with a walk up. There is just very little buzz about this game that I've been able to feel. I could be wrong, which would be cool. I guess with the impending war, the game being unofficially called a couple of times, and $$ spent on MUFCvCeltic (put me down for 4!)folks are a bit gun shy. I'll be there! Cap numer 15! Cheers.
I agree with seattlemls. 30K is pushing it on a sunny day without a war. The 20 people in my group should help, though.
Why is that so? A chilly day in the shade in early March last year brought out 38,500 for Honduras. It would think that Japan would be a much bigger draw in the Seattle than Honduras.
Re: Re: U.S. v Japan ticket sales Maybe the Seattle Japanese caught the baseball bug and could care less about soccer anymore(not sure if they ever did before). Ichiro is more popular here than Nakata I'm sure. Doesn't really matter, I'm hopin for a good showing from Seattle, they seem to pull it off well.
I'm not really good with the "Why" questions Andy. It's just a feeling. And 38,000 in a 45,000 seat venue to see the first USMNT game in Seattle in about 7 or 8 years disappointed me slightly. Just slightly.
Actually they only seated about 40,000 for that match IIRC. There were fewer seats available because of the configuration. Kevin
I can give you my "why". With the Hondorus game I tried to get tickets about two weeks after they went on sale. There were only a few left and in "partially obstructed" view areas. In the same time frame with this game I (and my three friends) had our pick of the stadium. Not that I'm complaining, but it certainly isn't selling nearly as fast. I have seen absolutely nothing in the Portland media about this game, which strikes me as odd since I know many local fans that will travel to Seattle for a good game. Scumby
I give the people of Seattle the benefit of the doubt on this one since a friendly in the March of a non World Cup year while war looms isn't going to attract much in the way of media or casual fan interest anywhere in this country. However, if it draws less than the 25k that showed up for the Sounders-Whitecaps game that opened Seahawks Stadium last year I would be disappointed. I'll be there with 25 of my fellow Portlanders doing our part.
We got eight coming from Spokane. I really think that as gameday approaches we will see more interest in the game.
Bus from Portland/Vancouver Area For all who are going up from the Portland/Vancouver Area the Timbers Army is organizing a bus. The more the merrier. The current plan is to head up and come back on Saturday. There will be much merrymaking and joy both before and after and if you have never hung with the Timbers Army then you will be in for a treat. Tickets are going to be in the $20-$25 range (depending on how many we get). You will be responsible for your own ticket. When you consider the cost of gas today - it is a hell of a deal. Interested? Either email timbersarmy@yahoo.com or check out the message board at: http://www.soccercityusa.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=timbers;action=display;num=1047235910
I was at the Honduras game last year and will be at the Japan game as well. I have no idea what the ticket count is right now but I wouldn't be too surprised if we fall below the 40k we got for Honduras. Why? Because last year was a World Cup year and the game in Seattle was one of the last few before our boys headed to Japorea. I hope we match/beat last year's total but without the WC buzz, I'm not optimistic. Maybe playing Japan will make a difference (lots of Japanese in Seattle). Side note - why not play this game at Safeco? It was a wonderfully intimate setting last year.

When you go to the game you'll see why. uh, do you want to be a bit more specific? Seems to me 30-40k people in Seahawks stadium (~75k venue) will not provide the same atmosphere as Safeco which is much smaller.
if anyone hasn't gotten tickets yet, you can get group tix with the usa supporters still http://www.sachinshah.net/pages/soccer.htm section 147, behind the North goal next to sam's army you can also join our yahoo group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/usasupporters/join -jim
Actually about 67,000. With a lower bowl of 30,000 or so, that if full will be louder than a sellout in Safeco. The roof focuses noise onto the field much like Husky Satdium. Seahawks Stadium was built to be noisy. Safeco is a fantastic stadium, a true gem, but it's not a loud one. Kevin
Safeco is also hosting the world's largest redneck party - Wrestlemania - the same weekend. By all indications Seahawks Stadium is excellent for soccer. Look forward to seeing it packed in the future for something other than Man U-Celtic.
