USA files complaint against Mexican federation Lets see how the mexican federation responds. http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/latest_soccer_news/409527.html US National Soccer Team Players Official Statement Concerning Treatment of US U-23 National Team During Olympic Qualifying
but your title is totally misleading. It is NOT the US Fed complaining. It is the US soccer players association- in other words the players union. They call on the USA and Mexcian Federations to do something. This has no official standing, and I doubt either will even respond. Not that I would mind if the US Fed would complain but I thought I read that they would not.
My question is this... English hooligans get called down constantly and rightfully so. For example, all English fans were punished this fall when UEFA would not allow ticket sales to the game with Turkey this past fall. What do they do that is worse than the treatment of our U23 team by Mexican fans and particulary the chants of "Usama"?
It's dissapointing that it's a players association thing and not the Federation, but good job for them anyways. Took a little while, but better late than never. Very very on point, kudos to them for saying it, they're the ones out there not the guys at the Soccer House.
Re: My question is this... Actually, the English FA declined their allocation of tickets for that game, rightfully fearing that there would be serious trouble if large numbers of English fans travelled to Istanbul. There was no punishment here (or conduct that warranted punishment anyway).
Re: USA files complaint against Mexican federation I agree w/ every single point made in the statement....highlighted what i thought was most relevant: they don't like but will tolerate some of the stuff fans do during/before games, but crap such as what happened in Mexico chanting Bin Laden is just out of line and the inaction of most organizations/federations surrounding the Olympics qualifying ( soccer -related people, the press, those organizing/hosting the event, etc) is truly regrettable...
The thread title is very misleading. The US hadn't filed anything. The US Men's National Team players association has asked the USSF to file a complaint with the FMF, FIFA and the IOC.
I just wanted to make a simple title, otherwise I would have to write "United States National Soccer Team Players’ Association calls on Mexican Federation and the Mexican Olympic Committee for a formal apology " - plus this isn't the New York Times
Please don't cut and paste text that is available from a link - especially when it says copyright at the bottom.
I'll have to check with J, but I think that's actually a Press Release - which is designed to be reprinted.
Yeah - it does look like it and I doubt that anyone would particularly care about this one. But cut and paste happens so often around here that I figured I'd say something -- big chunks of text can be a pain when people quote them, etc, even if not copyrighted.
Re: USA files complaint against Mexican federation Part of me thinks this is much ado about nothing. The Mexican fans were just trying to harass the opposition. And it wasn't an especially creative chant anyway. On the other hand, they made these chants not only during the US-Mexico match but during other US matches not involving Mexico. That sort of diminishes the "it's just home field advantage" line. If there's anti-Americanism, so be it. It's not like it comes out of nowhere. Still though, if European countries and clubs can get slammed for their fans using racist chants or ones that honor murderous warlords, what's the difference here?
