Format announced for record 92 teams. Same deal (I think) as last year. USL teams enter in round 2, kick NASL butt in round 3 and then play MLS teams in round 4. MLS 2 teams ineligible. U.S. Open Cup format
Sacramento Gold officially made it!!!! Qualified for Lamar Hunt USOC via 2015 NPSL playoffs: AFC Cleveland (OH) CD Aguiluchos USA (CA) Chattanooga FC (TN) Clarkstown SC Eagles (NY) Indiana Fire Myrtle Beach Mutiny (SC) Sacramento Gold (CA) At-Large Berths previously awarded: Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves FC Wichita (KS) Fredericksburg FC (VA) Miami Fusion FC At-Large Berths newly awarded: Chesterfield United FC (VA) Corinthians FC of San Antonio (TX) Detroit City FC Kraze United (FL) Cosmos B and New York Athletic Club, previously awarded places in the 2016 competition, have withdrawn.
92 teams, holy ****. So we still don't know potential opponents who we will face in the round we enter? I'm sure it will be another NorCal team... Sonoma County, SF City, Fresno, maybe Sacramento Gold??
May 11 in Sacramento, Calif. Sacramento Gold (NPSL) vs. Burlingame Dragons (PDL) http://www.socceramerica.com/articl...set-for-may-11-first-round.html?edition=15406
Winner of SF City FC vs. CD Aguiluchos takes on Republic on May 18 at 7:30 at Bonney. Tix are part of season ticket package.
I think we're saving all of our goal scoring for: Tickets to our @opencup match on Wednesday, May 18 go on sale this Thursday! Details --> https://t.co/kBV6NbqMdw pic.twitter.com/VCEzTsAmrV— Sacramento Republic FC (@SacRepublicFC) April 19, 2016
2016 LH USOC May 11 in San Francisco, CA San Francisco City FC (CA) 0 CD Aguiluchos USA (NPSL) 3 Goals by Simon Rawsley, Miguel Santiago and Ricardo Guerra broke open a match that was scoreless at the half for Aguiluchos, which will travel to Sacramento Republic FC next week.
Tonight's game WILL BE broadcast on KHTK 1140. 7:30. SacBee can't have a dedicated Republic link from their online sports page, but KHTK can broadcast an Open Cup game against a 4th division club. Good for KHTK.
I've noticed the Sacramento bee has been going back to ignoring who are burying republic articles in the sports section. It's kind of annoying they've gone back to those ways after they had good coverage of the team last year. Methinks the good old boys at the sports department are letting their biases show again.
Not a good night for USL, as OC Blues, Riverhounds, Roughnecks and Battery all go down to PDL squads, and Energy and Battery and Louisville had to go to PKs to survive. Next up for SRFC: Kitsap Pumas, who defeated Flounders U-23 1-0 on a 90th minute goal.
Here's the bracket for the next round. http://thecup.us/2016-bracket/ I wouldn't mind being in the stadium for Energy FC vs. Rayo OKC.
I'm feeling good about the next round, we have the advantage on paper.. then likely we'll be paired up with the Quakes again, that will be a great game! Does anyone have highlights from last night? I know it wasn't broadcast but wondering if anyone caught clips of the goals.
Not the Quakes next round, the Sounders! BREAKING: Winner of Republic FC vs @KitsapPumas will travel to @SoundersFC for Fourth Round of @opencup!(!!!) #USOC2016— Sacramento Republic FC (@SacRepublicFC) May 19, 2016
Also: Only goal I can find on Twitter from last night. (think this is #5 in stoppage time from Alvarez) 733152458139045888 is not a valid tweet id
Whoa! Well that's interesting. Just saw also the Quakes will play the Timbers in that round as well. I suspect the winners of those match ups will face eachother. Oh well, now I can cheer for both the Quakes and Republic for another round (knock on wood).
I suppose if SRFC goes to Seattle it will be played at Starfire? I think that's where Seattle eliminated SJ last year or the year before. You'd have to think that Seattle at SRFC would be the more attractive venue over Starfire and generate more excitement for the Cup, but I bet USSF gives preference to the higher division club.
Home advantage is a bidding war, both clubs say how much they'll pay us soccer for the game ang highest bidder gets it. Will srfc gamble on a sell out?
Perhaps you're right, and I believe it has been done that way in the past. My comment is merely based on the following statement from USSF on how host teams are determined: "Home teams are determined by a random selection process among those clubs that have applied to host and whose venues meet the minimum tournament requirements." http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...st-scenarios-for-2016-us-open-cup-third-round Perhaps SRFC would not gamble that they could host the game at a profit, as you say. But, I don't see why not. A preseason game against SJ was very well attended. I'd wager that a US Open Cup game vs. Seattle's senior roster would be at least as well attended, with the possible exception of it being a mid-week game.
Oops, I've quoted how the hosts for the 3rd round games are determined, and SRFC vs. Seattle is in the 4th round, so take my previous post FWIW.
Trust me, a home game, even midweek, against XBox would be a sellout at Bonney. Holding the game at Starfire will, however, prevent a road USL team's fan base from going into a MLS venue more organized and louder than the home team.
