I liked watching Lavelle - was keeping a close eye on her because she is a local gal... and she has some great vision, touch, big time work rate and pretty fearless for someone who looks like a Mighty Mite. Look forward to seeing how she performs when the opponents are a little more fearsome.
I didn't get to watch any of the games, but, for those who did....How is Rose? Is she the real deal? I love that she's a Badger.. what happened to the alaskan u20 player who also played for Wisconsin..
never saw her before the first game. didn't know who she was. but progressively fell in love with her game. my impressions? fierce. unselfish. covers ground like its going out of style. passes equally well with both left and right feet.
coaches may have judged that subbing is best use of her. she may not be able to do as well when starting. you'll have to ask the coaches.
btw, i have a question about the cr vs t&t 3rd place game. why did the cr player who removed her shirt after scoring a goal not get a yellow? or did she? i didn't hear jp detail it, nor did i see it come up on the screen.
I'm pretty sure she did - I was wondering about that too. JP didn't say anything but I saw a brief graphic on the screen for a CR yellow card. It was a while after the goal though, after they finished showing the replays and were a few minutes back into the live action.
Nice little article on Rose Lavelle from CONCACAF web site: http://www.concacaf.com/article/lavelle-stands-out-in-an-impressive-crowd
this player really surprised me. i knew about amack and andrews. and they both played well. but this player outplayed my expectations, and stole my attention. she's one to watch.
newsouth, curious whether you'll you be sharing your "brand name" theory after the U20WC regardless of how US does? Or just veiled cryptic posts?

I wonder if a couple of forwards turned down an invite. Someone mentioned Jenkins...Jaycie Johnson from Nebraska is a bit of a surprise right? She's a speedy firecracker that can finish but I believe this is her first call up at any level.
As I posted in the Algarve thread, calling Horan pretty much means she wont be in Portugal which might open the door for Hagen getting capped.
I always stick to my guns, called Dunn and Ohai for the win in the last WC after Germany's fluke 3-0 win and am calling this slow brand-name squad this time. If I'm wrong and they can work around the heavy feet, then I'm wrong.
I've heard that she's going to the U19 event in Spain with the U18s in early March, where the US will play the U19s from Sweden, Norway, and France. So, I don't believe she's being over-looked. (PS: I doubt that France will bring all of its U19 A team for that event, as they probably want to get a good look at a lot of their 96-born players, but I guess we'll see when they release the roster.)
I understand if you're correct you will respond with the "I told you so" and the explanation of your pre-tournament foreshadowing. But, what I was was asking is: if you are incorrect, will you share your pre-tourney doom & gloom analysis of what you anticipated would be the nature of their demise. Thanks.
I think it's going to be fun u20 wc to watch with many good teams to watch; France is on a roll, winning the u17 wc in 2012 & and the u19 euros in 2013, Germany will bring several well seasoned Bundesliga vets, Asia 3 teams(China, N & S Korea) will be tough as they eliminated Japan all ready. at this age group, Africa will bring some close knit teams that been playing their whole careers together, as hosts, Canada will not just have home advantage but 3 players that seen action on the senior squad as well as South American champs, how's Brazil looking?
According to today's press release, two 95-born players -- Jenkins (UCLA) and Munerlyn (UNC) -- are going to Spain with the U18 WNT.
