Sorry forgot to post the lineup I saw. Computer stuff way to complicated. Forwards: Freddy Adu (Maryland), Raymond Burse (Kentucky) Midfielders: Justin Mapp (Mississippi), Wesley Turner (North Carolina), Guillermo Gonzalez (California), David Walters (Missouri) Defenders: Phillip Long (North Carolina), Brandon Owens (California), Jeffrey Grosser (New Jersey), Drew Harrison (Virginia) Goal Keeper Phil Marfuggi (New Jersey), David Simolike (alternate) (Pennsylvania)
Re: Re: U-18 USA Fantasy Line-up and younger I have a few corrections, one is that Justin Mapp is not U18, another is that Freddy Adu is not a US citizen (yet), also I think that Craig Capano, Arturo Alvarez and Will Hall should replace Wesley Turner, David Walters and the replacement for Mapp. Also I think Hunter Freeman can replace any of the listed backs with the exception of Owens
"Freddy Adu is not a US citizen (yet)" I'm not sure where your information is coming from, but are you sure about this? He's in the residential camp with the U17's and has played with the U17's before, although I don't think he has played in an international. But the fact is I don't even think you can play for any ODP team unless you are a citizen. On another note, Adu is good but there's a reason he doesn't start even in non international games for the U17's. The 2 forwards that start regularly at the moment, who's names for the time being escape me, are better players. I've played against both.
He's right, Adu is not yet a US citizen. Adu is at Bradenton but does not participate in any officially FIFA sanctioned events yet. His participation is purely with practices and scrimmages. It is anticipated that once he receives his citizenship (expected in the first half of 2003) this will change. As to Freddy's not being good enough, you must remember that he's 2 years younger than the other kids. Also, he's more of a central midfielder than a forward at this point, and Memo Gonzalez and Eddie Gaven seem to have a lock on that position. -Tron
This is a preposterous thread, especially since the person who started it didn't clearly state what the criteria (age, professionalism, etc..) is for this "dream team." Now, regarding Adu, here are the facts. *He is not a US citizen. *He can't play in games against other youth national teams even though those games aren't FIFA-sanctioned. *He does play for the US U17 team in games against colleges, youth clubs and pro teams. *In those games, he starts and is the team's leading scorer for 2002 even though he has missed all the international tournaments and friendlies against other U17 teams. Granted, the opposition he sees in these games isn't that high but he is certainly good enough to start. *I could say that he is able to be so dominant because he's not really the age he claims, but that would open up an "Aunt Dora's Box" as my grandfather used to call it.
