The U-17 WWC will kick off next week, so it's time to cheer on the youngsters!

The roster was announced a couple of weeks ago, and I believe the team is currently in camp in Spain:
Goalkeepers (3): Ella McNeal (St. Louis Scott Gallagher; Manchester, Mo.; 0), Evan O'Steen (Florida State; Grapevine, Texas; 10), Peyton Trayer (Slammers FC HB Koge; Aliso Viejo, Calif.; 6)
Defenders (6): Meila Brewer (UCLA; Overland Park, Kan.; 5/0), Pearl Cecil (Virginia; Encinitas, Calif.; 10/1), Natalie Chudowsky (New York SC; Westport, Conn.; 5/1), Cali O'Neill (North Carolina Courage Academy; Durham, N.C.; 4/0), Olivia Robinson (STA; Scotch Plains, N.J.; 0/0), Sydney Schmidt (Sporting JAX; St. Johns, Fla.; 9/1)
Midfielders (6): Scottie Antonucci (Legends FC; Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; 8/1), Riley Kennedy (UNC; Holly Springs, N.C.; 4/1), Jaiden Rodriguez (USC; San Diego, Calif.; 15/3), Chloe Sadler (La Roca FC; Hyde Park, Utah; 10/1), Anastasia Showler-Little (Players Development Academy; Boonton, N.J.; 3/0), Nyanya Touray (Florida State; Silver Spring, Md.; 8/4)
Forwards (6): Maddie DiMaria (St. Louis Scott Gallagher; Fenton, Mo.; 0/0), Micayla Johnson (Chicago Stars; Troy, Mich.; 13/7), Elayna Kocher (Penn Fusion SA; Allentown, Pa.; 5/0), Lauren Malsom (UNC; Marietta, Ga.; 5/1), KK Ream (Utah Royals FC; Herriman, Utah; 2/0), Mak Whitham (Gotham FC; Granite Bay, Calif.; 2/1)

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2008, are age-eligible for this World Cup. This team features 16 players born in 2008, four born in 2009 and one born in 2010. The team has 13 players who were at the CONCACAF qualifiers and 4 of the players are returning from the 2024 U-17 WWC (Rodriguez, Antonucci, Johnson and O’Steen).

The U17 WNT team lost to Spain 0-1 in their final match before heading to Morocco. Spain scored their lone goal off a penalty kick in the 7th minute.

This is, probably, going to be a stupid question but here goes anyway.
I have FIFA+ app installed and I can access it fine but I seem to be unable to see Saturday's U17 matches or at least I cannot identify them.
I hoped to find a schedule that was chronological and could be viewed in the aired order but the order seems random and, so far, the most basic search does not narrow in down the offerings much in that if I search for "Women's world cup U17 live" I get zero results and most other searches return 100s of replays and, maybe, a few live matches interspersed.
I do not really care if the listing is in order but I do not want to have to sift through 100s of meaningless matches/replays/about/discussions to find a match to watch but FIFA+ is just not easy to find anything on unless you are willing to scroll through 100s of entries that are little more than junk.

I just want to be able to pick a U17WWC live match out of the other U17 WWC matches rather than the 100s of matches that FIFA presents as matches. In fact if I go to live TV in the FIFA+ app and select Sat 18 Oct and scroll through the entire listing not a single U17 WWC match is shown.
I hope someone can help me navigate the FIFA+ app to simply find a single match.

I don't know why the matches aren't showing for you on FIFA+. If I'm on FIFA+ and click on the Live tab, today's matches are there at the top. (Surely, they're not geo-blocked in the US? Sorry, I'm overseas right now, and they're at the top of the Live tab for me.)

Alternatively, check to see if you can click through from the main FIFA website. Every match has a link to the FIFA+ stream for that match.

Thank you. However I am not geo-blocked and I finally found the matches but, at least right now, it will take many clicks to get to any match. Also "Don't call me Shirly." :D

I am using FIFA+ on my Shield TV and that somewhat limits how I can access the web. I do not have a browser installed on my Shield and I do not think I will install one as my regular computer is what I use for surfing the web. I am semi-housebound and I have things set where I can use my computer and watch my TV at the same time from my recliner.

I thought I had the problem solved but I cannot find any U17 WWC matches on FIFA+ I have searched every way I know and the live matches just do not show up. I searched every way I can think of. My last search was for
"Italy v costa rica U17 women's world cup" and it only returned the match preview and nothing else.
I really want to solve this before the USA match later today.

FIFA+ usually shows the matches in countries where no media company has purchased the rights. In the US, Fox has the rights like it does for all of the World Cups. Today's game is scheduled to be shown on Tubi, according to the US Soccer website.

Apparently I was geoblocked. If I set my location to London it works fine. I will use Tubi for todays USA match today but I guess I will have to turn my VPN on for FIFA plus to work. Fortunatly I can use the VPN for only FIFA+ on my Shield TV but I have to turn it on for my browser to get the FIFA+ website to work correctly. Unless there is a standalone FIFA+ app for Windows. I will investigate that now.

Thanks. I will at least be able to watch the USA matches through Tubi but I hope I can get FIFA+ to work correctly as I have interest in several other countries that are not The USA as well.

The posted schedule is Tubi today, and FS2 for the next two matches. It looks like many of the games (not USA) are on Tubi's "FOX Sports on Tubi" channel, either live or on replay.

    Thanks.
I still cannot find the USA match as an upcoming match on Tubi. Their search feature should not be called that but it should be called the Tubi frustration search. However, I have managed to get FIFA+ fully functional so I am set for the matches.
However I have not found FOX Sports on Tubi so I will look again shortly.
I found FOX sports on Tubi but that is simply a live stream and I had a little trouble seeing the future shows there but I figured it out and they, indeed, do have the USA match scheduled at 3:00 PM so I am fully set now.

Using FIFA+ and Tubi I should be able to watch all I want but it is clumsy to use and neither FIFA+ or Tubi have an app that is at all easy to use. I feel like I have been left completely behind in the modern technology department. I guess I just do not understand how to do much of anything in the modern apps. Maybe my brain is finally stuck in the early 2000s and just cannot progress from there. I worked with and on technology for much of my adult life but my old brain just will not accept this modern stuff. I feel like senility has already settled in but I am only 78 and my dad did not get at all senile until he was almost 100 and my mom was as sharp as ever until she passed at 92.
Thanks for helping this old man through the trials and tribulations of this more modern world. ;)

For those who want more than the scoreline: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...opening-match-2025-fifa-u-17-womens-world-cup

Goals were from Meila Brewer (19'--header off a corner kick), Nyanya Touray (41'--easy tap in after following a rebound on a bungled save), and Lauren Malsom (45+1'--the best of the three with nice assist from Johnson to play in Malsom). The US actually put the ball in the net twice more in the 2nd half, but both were offside.

FIFA also has more stats up, but haven't posted the highlights yet (they are posting highlights for each match on FIFA+ and YouTube; the highlights are already up on FIFA+ but not yet on YouTube): https://www.fifa.com/en/match-centre/match/516/290333/290334/400020327

As an European viewer, who saw Norway reach the final of the continental U-17 Championship, I am very impressed by the fact that China managed to beat them by 5-0!:eek::eek:
Also, even if there was no AFC U-17 Championship this year and AFC had to nominate the teams for the AFC's slots based on the edition from 2024, China at that tournament had been only 4th, behind North Korea, Japan and South Korea.

Did anyone here watch the full match (maybe because of interest for the USA) and can tell me if the gap between the two teams was really as wide as the final score describes?
It would suggest that, at this youth level, Asia is way much stronger than Europe, since their 4th placed team can give such a beating to the second team in Europe.

The simple answer is that Norway played foolishly most of the match while China was virtually always ready for whatever Norway did and had many original and unique ideas and Norway just could not figuer out what to do after China scored the first goal. Norway even looked uninterested on a number of occasions. It was like they were playing a practice match that China took seriously.
I think Norway might still advance as it is quite easy to get into the knockouts with so many third place teams advancing but they have dug themselves a pretty deep hole by surrendering so many goals without even one for themselves. Their best chance is to win the next two matches but I doubt they can do that as they showed almost no effective offense against China. The first match for any team in most tournaments is not a good gauge as to how the overall tournament will go. Norway is better than their first match showed but they actually will have to play much better, not just a little better.

It did almost seem that China had found a couple of near clones of Sunny (Sun Wen) and they appear poised to regain the near dominance that China exhibited in the 1990s. That is actually quite scary as China has a population that makes the USA look like Maybury.

Eventually, down the tournament road, I hope to see Japan play China but the complications of group/knockouts make it hard to figure when/if that matchup can happen.

I didn't watch the game, and have only seen the highlights and stats, which can only tell part of the story. Some in the International forum might be able to say more. It did look to me from the stats and highlights that Norway perhaps came in wanting to play a more physical game and didn't adjust (China's first 2 goals were from free kicks: a direct free just outside the box and PK). It also looks like China was just much more clinical in their finishing (not as efficient as Samoa was, but still much more so than Norway).

The US beat China earlier 5-2 with goals from Malsom (27' and 68'), DiMaria (44'), and Touray (45+3', 62'). China opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but then the US put in 5 unanswered goals until China got one back late in the game (85').

We'll have to wait a bit for the highlights and match report to get posted, but the US is now sitting comfortably at the top of the group.

Found a place that has extended highlights. Just watched Costa Rica v. Brasil and the Costa Rican keeper was outstanding. Unfortunately, she made a judgement error which led to the Brasilian goal. But made up for it by saving a pk.

And watched the USA v. China. Man, DiMaria was just rampaging down that left side.

Can't answer you definitively, but Kimmi Ascanio is our best player in the age-group and she wasn't released by her club, San Diego. She's been a regular starter/sub all season (25 appearances, 16 starts, 1425 mins). She was released for qualifying though. I'd guess it's the best of the rest: Johnson, O'Steen, Rodriguez, Antonucci were all on last year's team. Other notables: Schmidt just signed with Courage, Brewer is in college but trains with KC, Whitham, Ream and Johnson first-year pros in NWSL. Even the college-based players have started college at an earlier age than usual and don't always stay the four years now.

I'd guess at this age-group, you are not as likely to miss a prospect because fewer have had the time to stand-out as obvious prospects. We might not know who else ended being good until they grow-up and play some more. The U15 and U16 groups are going to help to identify the U17s on a quicker basis as every year we are going to need to assemble a team to both qualify for and likely play in an annual U17 WC.

This is the link to Fifa's Match Schedule (bracket) for the whole tournament: The US is on track to play Spain in the quarter-finals if we both win our groups and the round of 16 matches. Spain may have a tougher foe in 16s: 2nd place Group D (Nigeria, France, Canada). Likewise, North Korea and Japan would play each other in quarters, if they win their groups and round of 16. Might make semis less competitive but still yield a good final match-up.

Micayla Johnson might be our best player on the team and seems more advanced than the opposition so far (though she has yet to score). She was also an effective player on last year's team as a younger player on a better team. She's a good example of the benefit of having this tournament every year. By next year she'll be ready to compete in the U20s.
