A friend of mine told me recently that the U-17s who are in residency, are all on an accelerated academic schedule, so that they graduate from high school in three years.

Can anyone verify if this is true? If so, is that such a good thing, or, is it being done to save money?

    Thanks.

in a setting like that, 3 years is nothing. Two could be done easily. A lot of time wasted in schooling anyway.

If the goal is to develop professional players, why not get the schooling done earlier. They can still go to university if they choose to.

With my 14 year old now in middle school and about to head to HS, I couldn't agree with you more. Too much extraneous stuff. Kids should do Math, English, History, Science and Foreign language. That's it, unless you want an elective like Art or Music.

50 minutes a class. Start at 8, done at 2 -- 3 if you pick an elective. Math homework every day; only one other subject with homework any other day. Homework should take no more than an hour. Read a decent book every two weeks.

Fortunately, with my kid's schedule -- three soccer practices and two games per week -- I managed to get him out of PE, which given his physical activity level, he simply doesn't need.
