Uruguay have beaten Ireland 3-0, so we'll be playing Uruguay for the championship. Here's a recap of the Ireland-Uruguay match: http://www.fai.ie/NR/exeres/C7D092A6-873A-417F-B84C-E9FBF91D9828.htm
Excellent! Thanks for the info BigEast! Memo--yet again--scores and Eddie Gaven getting into the act. I'm assuming that means that Cory Ashe had an assist on Gaven's goal, but that Memo's wasn't assisted? Was Memo's a PK? If so, who drew the penalty? Thanks again! -Tron
Hmmm. Right final score, but wrong details: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=22086&itype= Scoring Summary: 1st 2nd Final USA 0 2 2 YUG 0 1 1 USA – Eddie Gaven (Jacob Peterson) 42nd minute. USA – Guillermo Gonzalez (Eddie Gaven) 60. YUG – Veseliknovic (Marinkovic) 72.
BigEast made a typo on the date. The USA-Yugoslavia match was played on 9/15. I'd sure like to see line-ups for all of these matches. The line-up vs. Yugoslavia is up on ussoccer.com, but not the others as far as I can tell. One think I noticed was that Ashe did not assist on either goal, as someone had speculated. Jacob Peterson assisted Gaven's and Gaven assisted Memo's. One site I checked listed the final matches for 9/16, another listed them for 9/17. At least one didn't seem to indicate that there would be any more matches, which seems weird (and probably wrong). Something tells me BigEast will chime in with the score of the final whenever it is played. (Or maybe even before it is played )
The Final The Final is today (Monday). More info should be on the USSF site very soon, if someone can check and post. BD
Title Uruguay the Convincing Champion! Header The Uruguay U-17 Team left with the International Friendly Tournament Title that recently took place in Italy, after overcoming the other finalist United States by a score of 2-0. The winning goals were converted in the first half by Juan Albin and Ivan de la Sierra. This is a notable accomplishment for the Uruguay U-17 squed that is currently preparing for the South American championship to take place next year in Venezuela Directed by "Polilla" Da Silva, they won 2-0 in the tournament final against the United States through the goals of Juan Albin and Ivan de la Sierra in the first half, a game played in the city of Gaeta's stadium. Uruguay finished a great tournament once they consecrated it as champions in convincing form. It is noteworthy to remember that in the tournament's first phase Uruguay beat the local Italian squad through penalties after equalizing the game 1-1 in regular time, then the Czech Republic (3-1), Ireland (3-0), and then won the final against the United States (2-0). The Baby Blue Delegation will be arriving in our country the 18th, Wednesday, at 10:30 in the morning at the Internacional de Carrasco Airport.

I wonder what the problem is with getting match reports for all four games on ussoccer.com? I'd sure like to see the line-ups and game summaries.
Sept 11th Tournament for 2003 There was an interesting tidbit in the Uruguyan newspaper El Espectador. They claim the USA will host the tournament next year. http://www.espectador.com//deportes/dep2002-09-16-7.htm I'll send the USSF an email requesting the lineups for the games in a couple days. I doubt they will have any match reports though. Uruguay scored an early goal in the final, so I guess we were trying to get the equalizer most of the game and then they scored the second goal. http://www.teledoce.com:8080/ramgen/ttc/ediciones/2002/09/16/video-dep-20020916-1.rm
From the Espectador: Baby Blue U-17, Convincing Champion The U-17 Selection, under the direction of Jorge Da Silva, obtained the title of champion Monday in the International Tournament that took place in the Italian cities of Formia and Gaeta in honor of the United State's September 11th victims. Uruguay, after winning by penalties against Italy by 5 to 3 (0-0 through the first 90 minutes). defeating the Czech Republic Selection by 3-1, beating Ireland 3-0, won against the United States in the final by 2-0 with goals conquered by team leaders Juan Albin and Ivan de la Sierra. The Baby Blues began play with Sebastián Sosa (Peñarol), Javier Quirino (Peñarol), Alejandro Rodríguez (Nacional), Miguel Lavié (Juventud), Sebastián Silvera (Deportivo Maldonado), Iván de la Sierra (Danubio), Francisco Usúcar (Defensor Sporting), Juan Albin (Nacional), Jorge García (Danubio), Diego Rodríguez (Peñarol) and Jorge Ramírez (Nacional). At halftime they inserted: Alejandro González (Wanderers) for Diego Rodríguez, Cristian Stuani (Danubio) for Jorge Ramírez and Leandro Ezquerra (River Plate) for Juan Albin. The delegation also integrated the Wanderers goalie Néstor Muslera, the winger from Nacional Juan Silva, the sweeper (I think "zaguero" is sweeper, I could be wrong) from Nacional Federico Velázquez and the defender from Nacional Bruno Fornaroli. The Baby Blues will return next Wednesday, September 18th, on flight AR 1218 that leaves at 9:50 from Ezeiza arriving at Carrasco approximately at 10:30 without Professor Pablo Balbi who, at his own cost and with the consent of the Montevidean Juvenile Council and Director Jorge Da Silva, will stay one week in Rome to assist with the training of Fabio Capello's team. Uruguay is now invited to participate in the next tournament that will take place September 11th in the United States. The Montevidean Juvenile Council has now distributed invitations for an act of recognition that will pay tribute to both the U-20 Selection that participated in L'Alcudia and the U-17s that won in Italy. This will take place in the Assembly Room of the Uruguayan Football Association next Thursday at 7:00 PM. Author: Jorge Burgell
