Their CB depth is insane.Almost all the top sides have French CBs, they have almost all of the top level left footed CBs and one of the best CBs in the world Kalidou Koulibaly was eligible for France but, ended up choosing Senegal. It says something that with Red Bull's extensive scouting network they tend to look to France when they are signing CBs.

not to go too far off topic but France could put together an amazing XI of guys that were eligible to play for them but opted for other nations like Koulibaly, Benatia, Rapha Guerriero, Anthony Lopes (GK), Mahrez, Aubameyang

if only they could keep them in Ligue 1, it wouldn't be the 5th in rank by UEFA

I’m actually surprised that there isn’t any news of any of the 5 richest clubs in the world trying to come in and scoop him up. He was elite today.

This did not age well. Having said that, not looking for gotcha but would suggest that people consider that Nagelsman expects more of Adams than sitting lamely between the cb's, pressing at his pleasure then sitting back and admiring his work.

Nagelsman's ideas for Adams really paid off today. It's not what BigSoccer wants but it's good for Leipzig, good for Adams and good for USA.

I guess you could say that England tends to be very white in the central "spine" positions, which is not unrelated to the whole "pace-and-power" discourse going on these days.

I would have given motm to Kampl on technical grounds but Adams got the motm on emotional grounds and well deserved.

That’s a good article. I’ve always been rooting for Tyler, honestly because he grew up 25 minutes from my home town. He’s future captain material imo. Maybe Gregg should give him the armband sooner rather than later.

Upamecano has not been all that good for Leipzig - he can be sloppy - but he turned up aces today in UCL quarterfinal. Konate has been a better player over all.

Lol this is wrong. Konate is good! He’s also been hurt all year. Dayot is the better player.

Pretty nice to see our lad get such an important goal after all the hard work in recovery.

France has had a much more open policy regarding immigration from its former colonies than England has. The UK more or less slammed the door on immigrants from the Commonwealth in the 60s.

So while the UK (read: England) still has a fair share of players eligible for Nigeria or Jamaica or wherever, that flow was mostly shut off 60 years ago, so they now have way fewer potential dual nationals than a country like France.

Personal theory is that the big reason why we haven't seen a more permanent captain from Berhalter is that we've gotten exactly one game from Adams.

From all conversation, it wouldn't shock me if he isn't waiting for Adams to come in and seize it.

hmmm interesting theory. You might be right. Clearly our best younger players are Adams, Mckennie and Pulisic, and it seems very apparent that Adams has the best leadership qualities out of the 3.

With Adams and McKennie in midfield, our NT is going to be like Drunken Master Kung Fu: unpredictable, and able to hit hard when it looks the least likely.

You’re nuts man. In two years you’re going to wonder what went wrong when you hear Upamecano’s name whispered.

Because his decision-making and positioning are usually shambolic.

nagelsmann might not like adams but he still likes him enough to put him in late in a tied ucl match where a left side attacker is running rampant.
